Anger - 13/04/2004 16:24

So far I have downloaded 15 Corel products in an attempt to open some pictures that a client sent to me for her website. None of the programs I have downloaded will open a file that was created in a program called Corel Photo House with the extention *.cps. I am not happy about this. I have tried to walk the client through converting them to jpegs, but we are having a failure to communicate.

Does anyone have this program? Can anyone convert these pics for me? Can anyone validate my frustration with Corel?

Have you tried maybe Paintshop Pro or Adobe Photoshop? I can try it with PSP.

Have you tried Irfanview with full set of plugins?

Re: Anger - 13/04/2004 16:49

Greetings!

I looked at Photoshop 5. No luck there, but that is an old version. My other favorite for image conversion does not list that extension, but can do other Corel images. It is called Graphic Workshop Pro by Alchemy Mindwoks. I had used their products long before I could get Photoshop...

I have tried with Photoshop 7.0, but I dont have Paintshop. Here is a file if anyone wants to take a stab.

Nah... PSP8 isn't touching it. Sorry.

Re: Anger - 13/04/2004 17:15

Imagemagick 6 and Gimp 2 won't touch it either. Looks like your anger is well-placed.

And no luck with IrfanView. But thanks anyway Philip.

Re: Anger - 13/04/2004 17:18

Nothing with the latest Graphic Workshop. But I could have sworn... I wonder... Nope. The Corel format I remembered from the other program was from a Corel Paint - CPT extension. I tried renaming it, no luck.

Re: Anger - 13/04/2004 20:35

Could it be Color Post Script file, as mentioned here?

Perhaps a version of Ghostview can read it if so, perhaps rename to .ps first?

This other site lists these possibilities:
CPS = Antivirus Checksum File
CPS = Central Point PC Tools Backup
CPS = Color PostScript
CPS = QEMM backup of startup files

Good luck...

Re: Anger - 14/04/2004 04:03

CPS is Photo House's native file format, similar to PSD (Photoshop). It supports things like layers, vector objects and text as well as bitmaps. It's unlikely anything but another Corel product will open it.

Re: Anger - 12/05/2004 19:29

Well, I know this has been a while, but I found and loaded my Corel 10 stuff (draw, photo, rave(?)), and none of it would touch that file.

Re: Anger - 13/05/2004 03:17

OK, do you want to know the really weird bit? I managed to acquire a copy of Corel Photo House (v 1.00.172 in italian of all things), and it refuses to open the file. The program doesn't even appear to have a .CPS file option in the save or load dialogs. Are you completely sure this program is what created the file in the first place?

That file has the same header as a Microsoft Office file for some reason

Re: Anger - 13/05/2004 07:46

I found mention on the web that this may be a spool file for an Epson Stylus Colour printer.

Re: Anger - 13/05/2004 07:49

This says it's a "Corel Photo Suite" file.

I have Corel PhotoPaint for Linux, but it won't install/run on my RH9 systems -- needs an older distro, I suppose. Toss.
