Outlook Help - 29/12/2004 02:58

I thought I would give it the 'last ditch effort'...I accidently deleted one of my MS Outlook Mail Folders...and I would dearly love to have it back (with the mail). It is not in my deleted folder. I do have an exellent file recovery program. Does anyone know how I can get this folder (and the mail) back?
Many thanks...

Microsoft Outlook 2002 ... At least that is what the help window says. I never did care for express, and with the work apps that I have I need to use Outlook, not Express
Thanks

A general file recovery tool will not help you to recover the folder. All the Outlook data is stored in a single file called a .pst file.

This tool might be able to do it:

I have never used it though, so I don't know how well it works.

I guess you don't have a backup of the pst file ?

Thanks...I have not backed up my email (or anything) manually for about a month...I know, I know, insert lecture here, ...so unless there is an auto backup or something or a 'roll back' feature, then I guess I am just hosed. Crap.
On trac's tools are pretty pricey, aren't they?

There is an optional plug-in for Outlook from Microsoft that backs up the pst file for you. Unless you have installed this or backed up the file yourself there will be no backup.

I've got a folder with shorcuts to everything on my computer that I back up regularly. Thunderbird mail archives, Quicken data, all my web sites, and other various personal files. The shortcuts basically take me to the parent folder of what I want to back up, and then I just drag what I want into Nero and burn away. No, it's not automatic, but it's good enough for me. Even if you did that once a month, you'd probably still have that folder

Thank you, and Andy too! Won't help this time, but you can bet that I'm downloading it now, and will use it...this is the second time...I may be slow, but learning has taken place...finally!
Thanks again!

A long shot, but you don't happen to use IMAP by any chance do you? Our IMAP server stores every email as a separate file so it would be a case of recovering the deleted folder on the server in my case.

If you're just a home user using POP3, you're stuffed but I think you already realise that...

Thanks for the link. For some reason, I'm getting an error that "access is denied" when I do this. I set the destination folder as one of my networked drives, another PC at my home. After every reboot, to reconnect to that drive, I have to type in the admin password for that computer. I've made sure I have established connection prior to trying the backup too. I guess I need to learn more about Windows file sharing to have the "username/pass" on my Outlook machine listed as a trusted user on my networked, backup machine. I also hating using the admin password.
