preformance monitor (Windows/VMware) - 31/01/2005 18:32

I'm looking for direction in how to gather data on what resources (CPU, memory, netowrk & disk) a server is using - actually several servers.
The purpose here is to build a case for using VMware - ie show how under utilized some of our servers are, and then later use the same data for deciding what resources each VM will get.

Also if any one has advice on using/installing/managing VMware I'm intrested in listening.

Windows Performance Monitor (perfmon) has all of the things you want already built in. You might need to find some third-party analysis tools, but it does quite a lot itself already.

...and if you have the right permissions you can use Perfmon to gather this data from multiple servers at the same time over the network.

Who'd had thunk it?
We have someone at work who's job it is to do this stuff, so I'm spending some time with him tomorrow getting to know what I need.

Of course interpeting this info is another thing
