New Captain Scarlet

New Captain Scarlet - 09/02/2005 19:50

For those of you who grew up with Gerry Anderson's Supermarionation creations as I did in the mid-60's, you may be pleased to know that a new, CG version of Captain Scarlet is to be shown (without strings) on Saturday mornings on CITV in the UK. From the advance images I have seen of this program, it looks to be pretty impressive, and is done using Mo-cap and modern real-as-life CG animation techniques similar to those used on Final Fantasy and Firefly.

It starts with the first episode this coming Saturday, 12th February, at 9:30 AM. Be warned: if you are expecting it to be exactly the same as the old one, you are in for a disappointment.. It has been updated, with the same charactes and uniforms, but all new vehicles and different stories. See if you can recognise who Colonel White is, and who Destiny Angel is.....

The official Website for the program is here , and if you have a further interest in the programs of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, the website for the official fan club Fanderson is here .

I am myself not going to be able to see it as I am in NL and cannot receive the channel, so all I can say is....

Enjoy it, you lucky b******s!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh I love it! HyperMarionation ! !
At least its Gerry Anderson and not on Hollywood attempt. So at least if he screws it up its still in the family.
Can't wait for it to get over here.....

They should CGI the strings.

And have live-action cutaways to hands made up to look like they're CGI.

Go on, Go on, Go on! I've set it on the spare video, with a bit of luck, you'll get 21 epsodes by Amersfoort and the other five to follow.
I'll do it on old fashioned VHS, because I've got so many surplus tapes, so it'll be free. If you want DVD's you'll have to pay for tham!

Hm. I wonder if BitTorrent will solve my "wrong continent" problem.

But with even with the advances in digital eyelash rendering I still think the industry is years away from hyper-accurate string modelling.

I could set the mythbox to record it Rob and give you an FTP account and you can download it from there.

I'm not your boss, take it in the spirit that it was meant: Jokingly!!!!
Now am I taping these puppets, or not?

Just to be on the safe side i'll set it to record anyway. There's plenty of free space and it looks interesting but I'm rarely up that early on a Saturday morning to catch it live!

It's part of a much longer childrens programme, according to my Radio Times.

This introductory one is, yes. It starts at 9:25 with the actual show at 10:30 AM. I would very much appreciate a set of tapes if that's not too much trouble - bear your costs in mind.

Andy, I would also appreciate this for FTP access for the first and second episodes at least. Contact me with PM. Thanks!

As I said, no cost involved, I've got a carrier bag of redundant video tapes that were going to the village fete auction! Your only risk is finding that it's been taped over an East Enders Sunday compendium from 1996: We used to have a mongrel that got up and walked to the door, as she knew that I was going to the pub, when the East Enders theme tune started!
How long is each episode, I can't find any reference to it? The first episode, I'll do on Sky+ and edit out the rest of the programme, after that I'll just leave it set on Videoplus, no trouble: I expect the boys will love it.

So? Was it any good? Come on, put me out of my misery!

Looks like old-tech has won this time. It didn't record, apparently the tuner card was in use, which it wasn't and there are two of the buggers so shouldn't have been a problem. Only just found out, rather pissed off.

Re: New Captain Scarlet - 12/02/2005 11:09

Old fashioned VCR available for all callers at Boxer Towers!
Answering my own question, about 21mins., I suppose that's half an hour with commercial breaks. It was in 2 bits, but I've cut out the garbage in between, and do I mean garbage.
Personal opinion, bring back the strings!
