Yahoo.com turns 10 years old today... - 02/03/2005 11:42

Blast from the past. .

I wasn't on the internet until late 1996, so I didn't recognize it.

NFG North of the border. At least they tried, though.

EDIT: Oh wait.. Okay, so it failed to work correctly in Mozilla, Epiphany, Konqueror, and IE6 (for me), but Firefox managed it under XPpro.

Cheers

I don't know how true this is, but I've heard it from several independent people so there may be a glimmer of truth behind it. Back in '93, I started making a "cool links" page, and stuffing it with whatever I could find. (I froze it in 1995.) I'm told that the Yahoo people were inspired by my page to try to make a full-blown service. Of course, I was inspired (as were lots of other people) by Tim Curry's mtv.com, which I think was one of the first "cool" pages out there.

If the guy who drew this had registered it, he'd be a billionaire by now!

I guess Adam Curry's friends call him Tim.

I first remember Yahoo being hosted at akebono.stanford.edu/yahoo before it got its own domain and the company was later incorporated. The thing Yahoo really did was removed all the "fluff" from the other "cool links" sites (Justin Hall had another good one around the same time as mtv.com) and focused on a high volume of sites rather than just a few cool ones.

So Dan, did you invent the Internet also?

I saw a rather clever use of the "New" icon on a web site recently. Someone who everyone in the group knew as Jane Robinson is now going through the sexual reassignment process. A web site listing her name put it as "James Robinson". Probably the simplest and quickest way to make sure everyone knew.

You mean the star of Rocky Horror wasn't also a famous MTV personality? *sigh*

I've always been unhappy that Gore took the credit for my work.

Great idea, I'll file that away should I ever need it! This bbs is a treasure trove of ideas.

He was Pennywise the clown in Steven King's 'It', and I think he was the big horned Satan geezer in 'Legend'

I really liked him in Legend. The rest of the film sucked, but he was awesome.
