Robin Cook - 07/08/2005 02:02

Just heard on the radio that Robin Cook died while hiking. Very sad to hear that. I was by no means intimately familiar with his work/career, but he certainly did distinguish himself, in my opinion, as somebody with guts and integrity.

Age 59. I guess it is a relative phenomenon when you remark at how young someone is/was. Sorry to hear about his passing.

Oh, the MP, not the author. I was confused for a while there.

Sad to see him go, he definitely stood out from the generic politicians that seem to abound these days. Not into politics myself, but he did seem to have marginally higher principles than most of the rest of the house...

Agree he definitely stood up on an issue that he felt strongly about, not many politicians like that are there?

And now Mo Mowlam - 19/08/2005 07:32

Independent, BBC, Guardian...

It seems that British (and any other) government could use more people like her...

I was only wondering recently what had happened to her, I remember news reports saying she'd been taken to hospital but nothing since. A real shame, one of the few politicians I could respect, even though she was working for the wrong party.

This seems to have been one of her almost unique qualities.
