Supprised I didn't see any posts about this..

I sure hope this doesn't end up reminding me of what happened to empeg.

My guess is that SlimDevices will become integral to Logitech in very much the same way that empeg became integral to SonicBlue. They've got great software and a good hardware design. With Logitech, they can probably get their costs down and their volume up. (Maybe they could also rewrite SlimServer to run faster with large libraries and to be internally multithreaded. Today, when you ask a Squeezebox to do something complicated, like play your entire library shuffled, the whole thing hangs for a minute while it's thinking about it...)

Logitech would not have bought Slim if they didn't expect to turn double-digit Millions within a year or two. I know with acquiring Harmony they expected over $50M the second year. And in the same vein they'll likely getthe cost of the hardware down well below $40. I can see new Slim hardware coming out with manufacturing costs of about $15-30 depending on design. Such products would retail for between $150-$200 likely - maybe with a Costco or Sam's special version at $99.

Let's hope the Slim software doesn't go to complete crap like Harmony's did.

You think they're going to dump the existing hardware? I doubt that. When they got Harmony, they kept the remotes.
