Getting rid of Windoze XP Security Shield on taskbar - 23/06/2007 14:13
I'm running XP Pro (SP2) at home and have automatic updates turned off (I run them manually). Every stinking time I boot up the damn red security shield pops up on the taskbar and also gives me a balloon saying 'You might be at risk...'...
Anyone know how to kill the damn shield (and still leave the auto update turned off?!?!?)
Thanks

Start
Settings
Control Panel
Security Center
Change the way Security Center alerts me (last item on the left)
Uncheck relevant items (all).

Thanks from me too. I always hated that thing and had just set it to auto hide thinking there was no other way to get rid of it.

Even better, in my opinion, is to run "services.msc" from Start Menu -> Run. Find the security center and choose properties. Stop the service and change it to "Disabled". Now you've turned off all the ridiculous "functionality" rather than simply silenced the alerts.
