Need BIOS help?!? - 03/11/2007 13:58

I've been trying to figure out how to get my BIOS updated on my backup computer, and it has been a pain, probably cuz I don't know what I am doing.

It's a home brew computer so I ran a utility called ADIA32 to see what it had inside it. It reads the motherboard info and BIOS as listed below.

I have gone to Phoenix's website which was usless. I did google, but I could not find my motherboard or old or new bios listed....Am I hosed? Since about everyone on this board is more techie than I am, I am really hoping someone happens to know how/where to get this from. I really don't want to turn the motherboard into a brick...

Many Thanks!

Best bet is to look inside the box at the top of the motherboard. Somewhere, it probably has the model number silk-screened (painted) onto the surface. Google that model number along with "BIOS".

Have you ruled out the possibility that it's an Abit KV7V?

That's what the bios string seems to indicate as well. Abit KV7V

Thanks for all the help! I followed the directions (a first for me!) and it worked great!

Thanks again for all the help and proving that you are still willing to help an idiot who doesn't even have a working empeg!

Download and run CPU-Z. Then click on the Mainboard tap, this will show you your motherboard make, model and current bios version.

Any particular reason why you want to update the BIOS?

The best app I know for getting board/BIOS info is for linux. It's called "dmidecode" and should be included with most linux rescue USB/CD images.
