Mac Mini for $400 after rebate - 04/04/2009 01:46

This seems like a good deal, and I should have pulled the trigger on it a few days ago, but, for whatever reason, I didn't, and now it's available only in-store.

Would someone (that I know) who lives near a Microcenter be so kind as to pick one up for me and ship it along? I can PayPal (or whatever) you the funds beforehand if you like.

I might be able to help you out. I'm about 2 miles from a Micro Center that I visit all the time. The only thing that concerns me is my covering the cost and the shipping. And I believe I have a business Paypal account. Doesn't that charge me for transactions? Sorry, I'm just not that familiar with Paypal. I've hated using it and ebay for a while now.

Yeah, it does. You can have both a personal and a business/premier PayPal account, although you have to have separate email addresses and bank accounts. I can get you the money some other way. How about I send you a check?

It sure would be nice if there was a good way to send money freely and quickly.

You guys can't do an online bank account money transfer using the Plus system for a one-time low fee of like $1.50?

The equivalent ATM standard here in Canada, Interac, supports what's called an "email money transfer." You initiate it from your online banking, provide a destination email address, create a password and that's it. You'd tell the recipient the password via some method other than email obviously (just in case).

Nope. As far as I know, the best we can do in the US is wire transfer, which still takes like 5 days and costs me $6, though the fee is bank-specific, although my bank tends to be inexpensive about such things. Far quicker and cheaper to mail a check, although that does mean that the recipient will have to physically go to the bank to deposit it.

If you both use Wells Fargo you can do a transfer online for free up to 1000.00 per day.

Hm. It looks like Obopay is the best solution for this sort of thing. 25¢ to send money, 2.5% to add money to your account with a credit card number (no fee if straight from a bank account), otherwise free. And the recipient can have the funds deposited directly to his bank account without needing to sign up for an Obopay account. I think I'm going to give this a shot, if Matt's okay with it. Sadly, you have to send funds to a cellphone number. Why can't they include email?
