Monitor with dimmable backlight? - 05/09/2012 02:19

Hi, well, I've wasted hours over days looking for this, and it seems for any question, someone here knows the answer... smile

I'm looking for a monitor, preferable 24" 1920x1200, with a dimmable backlight. Dimmable like every laptop ever made.

Do these even exist? The room I work in is not bright even in the day, and I tend to work well into the night. My current monitors are blinding.

I've found only one model, but it's like $1700 usd, I'd like to find something much more reasonable.

Thanks!

Is this dimmable backlight somehow different to the brightness control ?

Yep, the brightness and contrast fiddle with the video settings, if you dim that way, it munges up the image.

The only ones I know definitively that support this are Apple's displays.

On a Windows machine you'll have to install Apple's control panel to adjust the brightness, as the display doesn't have any buttons itself.

Isn't the backlight on Dell's IPS LED-backlit LCD monitors adjustable?
