Very nice!

I wish I'd really get back into the habit of taking some real photographs, but just don't seem to have the time or inspiration lately. Here's one that I snapped with my phone that I've recently dug up that I think turned out OK for a quick snap shot.

This was not a snapshot. When I got close to the dragonfly, he would take off, skim the fish pond, then come back to his vantage point. Each time I could get a bit closer until finally I could maneuver to a position where the sun backlit the wings. It took about 10 minutes to get the shot.

Both of these caving photos were taken in complete darkness, except for our head torches.

Four flashes were used for the Weebubbie Lake shot, single exposure.

Cheated a bit for the Kubla Khan shot merging three frames each taken with four slave flashes moved between each frame.

Great pics! Tony, I actually liked your pic above on Flickr. Amazing one. Makes me want a bigger zoom.

The ones I like I post on Flickr.

You guys really make me wish I was smart enough to figure out all this photography stuff as opposed to just using the 'magic modes' on the camera.

These photos are incredible.

Thanks smile

One of the reasons I love comic and games conventions is precisely those amazing costumes. There's some serious art in creating them.
And, taking nice pictures is easy even for amateurs like me, when those people look SO good!

Well, Imagine how I feel when I think I am "...smart enough to figure out all this photography stuff..." and I use my very capable and sophisticated mega-zoom camera, tweaking the settings for optimal results, and SWMBO uses her silly little pocket-sized camera on full auto... and sometimes her pictures come out better in terms of exposure, color balance, image sharpness, etc. than mine do. I take solace in the knowledge that at least I can take pictures that her camera simply isn't capable of taking.

Attached is a low-res copy of a sunset I took from my deck. What makes it unusual is it isn't the sun behind that cloud. The photo is facing due South, and the sun had actually set way off to the right (West) 10 minutes earlier, and was lighting up the cloud from below the horizon.

I find that A LOT of whatever beauty is in those pics, that's mostly because of those people, honestly. I am always amazed at how natural and real they are at impersonating whatever character they choose. I developed some serious respect for what they do. These cosplayers are most, maybe all, amateurs, and yet they are so incredibly good. And as they see you're taking pictures, they pose like Pros - not that I would know how a pro poses, actually laugh

This is one of my favorites:

Doug, that is some sunset. You do live in a wonderful place. And you'd take even better pics with a DSLR! wink (JK, thinking of an old thread here).
