Boot Logos

Boot Logos - 13/02/2002 23:31

It would be a neat feature to be able to select like a 5 second mp3 to be played at startup (don't know how possible that would be).

Anyways, I made some boot logos and I can't upload them to riocar.org for some reason. If anyone else gets the urge to upload them, go ahead. The first one is attached.

Alright I can't get the logo to show, but if you download the file and open it in Logo Editor you can see it. It's a napster logo. This next one is the logo of AutoZone - my employer.

Do you love your job THAT much or are you just kissing up to the boss? hehe I might upload the AutoZone for you, but I'd rather not do Napster as I don't feel like associating empeg w. Napster (I have no problem if YOU do that, but I don't want my log in name next to it Hope you understand.)

Instead of "Save As.." try "Export" to a .bmp (Windows Bitmap.) That way, you can easily convert to Gif for the BBS.

Napster is dead. May it rest in peace.

Re: Boot Logos - 14/02/2002 12:32

Okay, no Morpheus logos by me either!

Re: Boot Logos - 14/02/2002 14:26

Between Morpheus and Kazaa, does anyone see any advantages of one over the other. They have the same interface, so why is there two of the same software?

Re: Boot Logos - 14/02/2002 14:29

Don't they both point to the MusicCity servers? If so, it probably doesn't matter which you use. I guess whichever is more comfortable for you.

Personally, I use WinMX for popular songs. But, I mostly use AudioGalaxy. They recently implemented a bunch of song blocking, so you won't find a lot of popular stuff on it. However, if you're looking for anything rare, AudioGalaxy is the way to go. I've been using it to preview song clips for an internet station I'm building at MusicMatch. It's really helped.

Kazaa is supposed to have some sort of advanced searching algorithm on top of the underlying protocol. Can't give you any more information than that, though, and I'm not sure it's even true.

Re: Boot Logos - 15/02/2002 14:24

Yeah I just assumed Morpeus was better due to the fact more people have downloaded it. But it seems now Kazaa is back in the limelight due to the recent court case and how they are back online for downloads with a new version. Now that Napster is gone, there seems to be no front runner.

Re: Boot Logos - 17/02/2002 09:02

What problems are you having when you try to upload them?

The 2 things I can think of are:

1. Username won't work. If this is the case, ensure you crerated a seperate user name here. It can also be used to reset a forgotten password. Keep in mind this is seperate from a riocar.org site, as the database for the logos hasn't been merged.

2. The uploader only accepts gif or bmp files, not the raw bin files. I'd like to one day have a bin generator on the site in case logo changes via ethernet/empeg ever get implemented, but it's still something I have had no time to work on. (Anyone want to hire me to just do programming? I'd be a lot more productive to the community that way )

And yet another- this one is very cool. It's 'empeg' with flames underneath. Oh yeah, and the one I attached about 3 posts above is USA/olympic oriented.

Re: Boot Logos - 21/02/2002 08:24

Hey 33,

Instead of saving your logos (which creates a BIN file) do this:

After you've created your logo, File --> Export --> Home Image (if you created in the top half of the editor) --> Name your file.

This will export the logo as a bmp. Then you can upload them to the logo site.

Good luck.

Re: Boot Logos - 21/02/2002 10:38

You might wanna think twice about using Audio Galaxy, recently read an article talking about it's backend activity, all your cookie info gets sent somewhere, and either the CEO or the Vice Pres of the company (can't remember) was linked to credit card fraud. If I can find the link I'll post it, but bottom line is audio galaxy is bad news. Also read an article about Windows media player 8, it logs every media file you play through it and sends the list back to the mother ship.... Apparently Microsoft just stopped collecting the info (when they got busted) but still somewhat unsettling.
