I got mine too :) - 08/10/2003 19:21

I got mine today.

I can't see how anyone could say it's bulky. I'm uploading right now and haven't played with it too much the interface looks similar to the Riot.

The smiley Karma is cute

So far the only complaint is that the headphone cord isn't long enough to put the player in my pocket with the earphones in.

Here's my first question. What is the connector on the top next to the headphone jack for ?

I recall (it's hazy now) Rob saying that it was for programming during production. I may well be wrong...I know I've seen other conjecture - wired remote etc. Rob?

It's for a wired remote (which may or may not be released).

Here's another question.

How do I insert tracks or can't I do this. I though I read that the Karma would support this.

Go to Now Playing view (press the stick), use the wheel to scroll to the position at which you want to insert, press the wheel, utilise the menu that appears.

Gggrrrrr..

Release the remote. Everyone wants it. I still don't see the logic behind not releasing it.

well the interface is there! as I said somewhere else it'd a waste not to release it.... a no brainer....

Well, if I had to guess I'd figure the logic goes this way: wait and see how Karma sells, and see if spending the $$ to open production molds, procure parts, assemble & packaging same is going to be worthwhile. If Karma doesn't reach expected sales/critical mass, there won't be wasted $$. If it does, then there'd be a market ready and you'd be sure to make back you capital expenses & make some money. I'm sure it's not as if they're sitting in a warehouse someplace simply not being offered for sale.

Re: I got mine too :) - 09/10/2003 06:51

That is pretty much the logic, last I heard. It is extremely expensive to make accessories like this, and they are probably waiting to see if it is worth the investment.

For what its worth, my old minidisc player wired remote fits in the socket. Pity there is no software listening for control signals at the moment...

Re: I got mine too :) - 09/10/2003 16:56

My old sharp minidisc 702 has a wired remote with a backlit screen and full functions, but the ones even a couple model numbers up have a remote but no screen a limited functions... go figure. It is funny too I put my remote wich has the screen on a model that didn't and the buttons worked but the screen did not, so I guess it was cheaper for them to make it without the driver for the remote screen.

Another question is there a way to make it so the player doesn't turn on everytime I put it in the dock ?

It's gotta sort of "boot" the dock... for instance, to activate the USB and ethernet ports.

I think that the intended behavior is... If it was in sleep mode when you put it in the dock, it's supposed to boot up then go back into sleep mode. Much the same way the empeg does. I could be wrong about that. Anyway, I didn't look back over the thread but make sure you've got the current firmware and see if that fixes it.

Re: I got mine too :) - 09/10/2003 21:05

Never mind. Mine doesn't do that, it always turns on when I put it in the dock. So maybe that behavior is intentional. Perhaps so that it can do a profiled synch.

I got the latest player firmware. I also downloaded the new version of RMML. How do I get the new RMML on the player ?

You don't. The newest version of RMML is on the player already if you have applied the latest firmware. (It is the newest, as of the date the player firmware was made.)

If there's a newer one somewhere that you can download (didn't know that there was?), then run it on your PC's hard disk instead of directly off the player.

The version on my player is 1.0 version 1.01 is on the rio website.

Re: I got mine too :) - 10/10/2003 06:03

Rob decided to release RMML on a separate release cycle from the firmware (when firmwares come up, they will have the latest RMML that was released at the point, but there might be a newer on the site). There is a post of riovolution.com that has the link to rioaudio.com where you can get the latest RMML (1.02 official release) -- I can't remember exactly where it is on there. If you want ultra unsupported bleeding edge, you can get RMML from my site @ www.inzyme.com/rio .

Bug or feature.

When in shuffle mode I can not go back tracks only forward.

Re: I got mine too :) - 13/10/2003 03:57

Do you mean skipping tracks or scanning through? Scanning through forward and back is a known issue. Skipping should still work.

Re: I got mine too :) - 13/10/2003 05:08

Skipping back in shuffle. I tried it again just now and it worked maybe it just needed to be rebooted ?

Hmmm... Were you able to reproduce the problem?
