Way cheaper than a Central was.

Looks like a nice enough Rpi product. Pity I ditched all of my CDs during the move.

Quote:
- 500G stores 1100 FLAC or 5000 MP3 CDs
- 1T stores 2200 FLAC or 5000 MP3 CDs
- 2T stores 4400 FLAC or 5000 MP3 CDs

Does not compute. Typo or a hard limit of ~5000 CDs?

Possible database limit?

Re: Brennan B2 - 20/12/2016 21:58

I would find that surprising for a new product like this one. I'm betting on a typo.

It's just a Rasberry Pi inside. So perhaps there's some limit on how much track/CD info they think will fit within the onboard flash?

Re: Brennan B2 - 10/03/2018 06:03

I thought the B2 was awesome after discovering this thread. It all came to a screeching halt when I found out it does NOT use ID3 tags to index the ripped music! I mean it is 2018 why would it be designed this way?

EDIT: From their site "The music is organised by artist and album - but paradoxically does not appear in the Sonos categories (artist, album, composer, genre etc) this is because B2 does not tag tracks with ID3 tags presently."

Help me understand this.

Re: Brennan B2 - 06/09/2018 04:56

From the Brennan faq...

2TB Album Capacity
A 2TB B2 can store 4400 albums losslessly (FLAC).
You can store more if compressed to MP3 - there is currently a software limit of 10,000 albums and 160,000 tracks.

Why do all models have 10,000 Album Limit?
The hard disk on 1TB and 2TB B2s can hold more than 10,000 albums in MP3 format but there is a software limit of 10,000 CDs because thats as far as it has been tested.
There are some "test pilot" owners with special software with a 14,000 CD limit.
