Any news on external display?

Any news on external display? - 19/09/2005 19:06

I have heard many ask for it, but I can't seem to find any info about it's availability. Looking for something simple enough to display track info from empeg to a composite video input.

Looking to mount the Empeg in the trunk, but see the current track on the screen in the car.

Obviously, it would be great to see the entire empeg screen remotely along with menu choices, but I am easy at this point.

If anyone is working on, has a completed product, etc. for this type of converter, please by all means post up what you have.

Thank you!

Patrick did design and make one but it's not available as it was all funded by a single company so the designs aren't available. It wasn't cheap anyway. The easy solution is to get a small composite output video camera module and point it at the display.

Ugly, but would work. There was someone else fiddling with external VFD displays connected via the serial port here and altman was doing something similar for his Noble but I don't think he was making that public.

Well, what about working out how to connect something to the LCD connector on the main board?

From what I've read in the past, there are pretty sensitive timing issues there.

EDIT: Some info from Hugo and Patrick

Those posts are about the connector for the display board. There is a LCD header as well but it's not connected to anything.

Ah...right. There's a different problem there. The lines that contain the signals for the top 8 bits are in use for gpio, so we could get at most an 8-bit display, and that would require hacking of the display driver in the kernel and probably some buffering for an external display.
