External control, buttons?

External control, buttons? - 25/06/2002 10:23

I was just wondering if there are any projects or ready solutions to have basic controls to the empg through already installed buttons in newer cars, (like Saab who has volume/skip track buttons on the steering wheel)

I guess it wouldnt be to hard to just connect the buttons to the empeg serial port and write a simple program for it? I dont really know anything about empeg/linux programming so I´m just wondering if there already are any projects out there thats finished or if there is any interest in seeing a function like this?

You can get an OEM-PAC product that will take the output of the steering wheel/external controls and transfer it to RF which can be recieved by the empeg. I think you can get them at tune-town.com for about $80.

hmm... tfabris.. What i could see of your link to the FAQ was that you control the volume through your amp(wich is connected to the steeringwheel buttons) But that only takes care of the volume. Not of the skip track function. I would want to be able to change songs through my external button (or any other function you would want to use it for)

I will look into electrics solution. Maybe thats what I´m after..

Thanks anyway

hmm.... sorry tfabris!

There was an error the first time i fallowed your link. And I ended up on another FAQ. I started searching the FAQ and found the section you meant! I double checked your link and now i ended up in the right place!

So sorry.... it was my mistake! And you were right, it was FAQ related. I must have missed that part or something. Thank you anyways!

Sometimes web browsers have trouble scrolling down to the right part of the page when it's a frames-based page with lots of images. That must be what happened.

Welcome, by the way.

Hi Tony,

This can be avoided by including the image dimensions in the <img> tags. Without them browsers don't know what size to render the images at and, as a result, have to reformat the page as the images are downloaded and the size information is found out.

Unfortauntly IE tends to still shift the page around even when everything has the size tags. And instead of telling everyone to upgrade to a better browser, I am planning on addressing this with a hack to the FAQ code, to allow linking to a page that only displays one FAQ answer. My main work will be transparently doing this, so that all the existing links here magicially do the right thing. (Similar to the gallery hack noone noticed )
