New HP PC on Win 11 has an issue where the taskbar is not refreshing, the most visible manifestation being the time doesn't update (it also means that if close an app then you're not necessarily going to get the window you think when you click it in the taskbar).

Tried all the fixes I can find on the wwww, has anyone had this and successfully fixed it?

First I've heard of this one. What happens when you float your mouse above a taskbar item?

It'll relate to whatever item was there, not the current one

It seems to be related to my PC not correctly joined to the domain. It seems OK now (last week or so)

I'd imagine this is a bug in the DWM or Explorer. Have you tried seeing what happens when you go to task manager and kill the Desktop Window Manager or explorer, then run it again? (although I'm actually not sure how to run apps via task manager anymore - darn Windows 11)

Did you repave it with a fresh Windows install, or is this the default, manufacturer-installed crapfest?

If the latter, I'd put good money on that being your problem. There's some HP-installed crap that's screwing up the taskbar.

Restarting Explorer has fixed it (yes Windows 11 is a pain), so a bug in one of the most import components of Windows. Crazy.

Default HP install, I'll see what's installed that I can remove

Classic HP. Take it all out.

I've been rocking a Framework laptop for about a year now and I love it. No crapware other than Windows 11 its self!

So, taskbar issue seems to be fixed, yay!

But I've got a new issue (seems to be quite common), clipboard stops working after a while. Needs reboot or logoff to fix.

I've tried every fix I can find on the internet but no joy.

MS problem I think as loads of people seem to have the issue on a variety of machines.

Poxy stupid machine

I’ve got a new Windows 11 issue in recent weeks. The Start Menu loads completely blank, just an empty dark grey rectangle.

Opening and closing it a few times fixed it.

I find this representative of the basic functionality of Windows nowadays. The search still doesn’t reliably present local applications as prominent results (or even show them at all in some cases) when you are typing the actual name of the app.

It possibly only happens using RDP, but that doesn’t let Microsoft off, I’m using their RDP client to connect to their OS.

Mind you, searching for installed apps is one areas Apple needs a kick up the arse on. It is insane that iOS doesn’t use the metadata it has on the app to help find apps.

An example, I have an app for the Bluetooth level sensor on the gas bottle on our campervan. But I can never remember what the app is called. You’d imagine searching for “gas” or “sensor” or “Bluetooth” might find it, but no.

The app is called Tank and the company name is Mopeka and as far as am aware those are the only two search terms that will find it. So I now have a Shortcut named “Van gas” that launches the app, so I can search for “gas” or “Van”. I have this for a few rarely used apps now.

The finding apps things isn't specific to RDP
