Well, it eliminates the mp3 as a possible reason why the sound is not working. It is unusual to see the sound production fail on a player completely like this - I can only remember about two or three instances on the board, and usually only AC or DC.

It seems to be either a procedural issue (testing method) or a hardware issue. That is why I was recommending really basic testing - volume set to zero, etc.
