Howdy all...

My Sunpower OEM AC adaptor which shipped with my now out-of-warranty Empeg has decided to die on me... and just before a 7 hour trip to Vermont.

Does anyone have any good recommendations for a replacement adaptor?

Thanks kindly!
-Greg Germ

Hi,

My IEC power supply died a few days after the online store closed. Fortunately David was able and willing to replace it (out of warranty too! Thanks again David.)

To the point though, I noticed on the back of the IEC supply is printed what appears to be the manufacturer's details. Even a UK telephone number. This is the third psu I've gone through and I fear it's only a matter of time until this one dies.

Has anyone ever tried contacting "Sunpower" in the UK and enquiring about these supplies? This one is model MA15-150. It should work worldwide being rated at 100-240 VAC. And IEC connectors are plentiful in all of your drawers/cupboards I'm sure!

Regards,
Aragon

Heh,

Just after posting previously I thought I'd see if Sunpower have a web site up. Lookie here:

http://www.sunpower-uk.com/pitems/externaldesktop.htm

and

http://www.sunpower-uk.com/pitems/extdesktop/MA15.pdf

Hmmm, now that looks sooo familiar

What's the point of giving a price for a US power plug in GBP? now if I could only find that link to a currency converter...hmm...looks like about $23.30 USD.

Well, I know it's a little rude of me to answer rhetorical questions, but here I go anyway.

Because the fixed price is in GBP, and the US dollar price will wobble
around a bit from day to day. So what your credit card eventually gets charged
may not bear much resemblance to a price quoted here if he were to quote
in dollars.

OK, to be fair, here is a rhetorical question from me to which you are welcome to annoy me with a response:

What's the point of quoting the UK's Gross Domestic Product in USD?

Hmm... I recently requested an AC adapter from SonicBlue because my Rio Car didn't include one in the box. They sent me one made by CIC Computer, Inc. It has a model number of NP12-1S1210 and seems to be almost "pocket-sized". It looks like more of a "travel charger" than a full-sized adapter with a "brick". Maybe this is a good alternative for those of you having problems with the other one?

Yeah, that's the "compact plug top" adapter. I really like that one. It's like an anti-wall-wart.

Because it makes it sound a bit more impressive.

A couple of weeks ago, my Sunpower mains adapter died too.
Outout 0V. I praised myself for my foresight in ordering some
spares from the empeg store before it closed and swapped over
to a spare. I left the old one sitting on the desk.

Last weekend, I thought `I should really throw that useless
adapter away', but being the way I am, I just had to test it
again before doing something irrevocable like that. 12V.
Plugged it in to the empeg---worked perfectly.

I offer no explanation.

That would be a "me too", my UK version Sunpower adapter also repaired itself over a few weeks of sitting on my junk pile as well. Odd.
