G'day All,
My first posting here!
Just wondering how many Empeg owners on this board are in Australia and Western Australia in particular?
Thanks.

Well, theres more than one.
Shonky has one at least and then theres muzza whos had one for a while (muzza even had a original Mk1 model if I recall correctly).
You would have guessed both Shonky and muzza were Australian I'm sure.
I doubt thats the only 2 here.

There are three in Brisbane, at least one in Sydney and three in Melbourne also, I think. I have a MK2 empeg, Shonky has a Mk2a riocar and I'm pretty sure the other guy here has a Mk2a too. I only know of one Mk1 in Sydney but haven't heard anything from him for some time, well over a year.
PaulWay has my Mk1 in Melbourne and I think rjlov has a Mk2a
Don't know anything about WA. Somehow I don't think we'll be having a meet here soon tho

I'm in Sydney, have a MK2 empeg.
I never had a MK1 so I guess that makes at least 2 in Sydney.
Edit: There are several on the old developer site.

Thanks for the feedback, there are more than I expected!
I won't be holding my breath for a meet here though!
I am sort of on the lookout for an empeg mk2 or 2a of any size and would rather deal with someone here than on ebay. I realise this is a subject for the For Sale section so when I get my act together (and some cash) I will put a post in there.

I tried to get a bit of a meet together back when the MkIs came out, but there were only three of us in WA (Perth) then. I sold my MKI to a mate, and got a MKII so I guess there is four of us now

Yeah I should have guessed that, although then I might have guessed that darwin was also from Australia but I see from a post in For Sale that he is in the USA.
On a different note, has anyone had experience of using an empeg on the rough dirt roads we get here as opposed to the smooth roads overseas? I know the laptop drives are shock-protected, but 100's of Km's of corrugations together with heat and dust must be a pretty harsh test for them.

I've travelled several thousand km on all types of dirt roads and have never had a problem.
I think someone has an empeg in Alice Springs. I'm sure it will be getting it's fair share of dirt roads.
I've found a fan to be worthwhile, reducing operating temps from the fifties down to the thirties. I used a 486 fan with a series resistor dropping the voltage to 8-9 volts to keep the noise to a minimum.

Re: OutbackPeg
Just Strait Fast and Very Long roads.
I don’t like to get the DunnyDore’s feet dusty if I can help it.
So my Empeg has never seen the red dust
I am thinking of putting my second mounting bracket in the 4WD, as yes Camping and Bush Bashing up here it gets way too hot and dusty, I am considering building some sort of portable shock resistant case with forced ventilation and air filter I can store safely up the back of the truck, it would also be good if it semi float's (Fishing Trips) – with just power in and line out's, Just leave it on random for the whole weekend or some sort of IR remote relay would be Kool.
Gazz. Alice Springs
P.S - Gidday to all yoo's Aussies!!
(With the fishing bit, if the boat sank there would be just me, the Empeg and the Crocs.)

In reply to:

I have never had the empeg skip either, but I have noticed that it can 'bounce' out of the sled if you do some serious off-roading. The kind where when you get done, you have bruises you didn't have before

Have an 80GB Mk2a in Melbourne. Never a problem with Empeg, just paranoia when I sometimes have to leave it in the car!
