So I was pumping gas at 7:45am, on my way out to a mtb race, when I heard a skid, and a thud. I looked up to see a jeep had T-boned a car -- don't know if the jeep ran a red, or what. The car did a 180, and pulled a Uturn across 8 lanes of traffic (while both sets of lights were red) to where I was. The jeep got deflected, and curved off toward the sidewalk, slammed into a firehydrant, bounced off that, and ended up back in the intersection. The hydrant snapped off at the base, and a torrent of water started shooting straight up into the air, about 10 feet past the top of the light standard the hydrant had been next to. I wish I had had my camera.

Too cool, just like in the movies!

I mean, the fire hydrant geyser, not the accident. I'm sure people got hurt, and that part is not cool. But a fire hydrant geyeser is cool.

I thought that was one of those things where the movies aren't like real life. You know, like how in the movies, if you confuse your computer, the monitor explodes. I always thought that fire hydrants woudn't really squirt water like that if they were knocked off.

I've seen that one before, it was pretty inpressive... I remember being able to see it from the freeway and getting off the freeway to drive by, so it was visibile from quite a ways away... They must have to shut the whole areas water down to get a new hydrant on...

I don't know if they do it in your area of the country, but occasionally around here they'll open one up for a couple hours just to make sure the line is clean. Those things definitely has some serious pressure behind them.

Ya, I wouldn't recommend trying to get a quick drink from one of those..unless it was on a dare! Now that'd be exciting.
