How's this for an oddity...
The last couple of days, when I turn my car off (ignition off, keys in my pocket) the empeg just keeps right on playing. No sound -- the amps are off -- but the empeg won't stop. Doesn't go into standby, doesn't shut off, just keeps going until I pull it out of the dash. Re-insert it and it stays off until I turn the ignition back on.
Sounds like a wiring problem, doesn't it? But this is not the first time this has happened.
So on a hunch, I think "This problem started after the last time I synched the player. I wonder if re-synching it will make the problem go away?" I change the order of two songs in a playlist to force a re-synch, re-synch the player, and voila! Problem solved.
Have you heard of this happening before? What do you suppose could be the underlying cause?

I'm having the same thing happen since I upgrade to Hijak v300. Maybe something in the upgrade process?

Probably not... I am not running HiJack or any other third party software.
Try re-synching and see if the problem goes away like it did on my player.

One thought I initially had was that "resynching" didn't actually fix it, but maybe plugging in the AC power plug jiggled the leaf switch enough to fix it... If the leaf switch is making contact, the player assumes it's in AC mode, and will stay on after the ignition is turned off.
That *wouldn't* explain the part about "reinsert and it stays off" though, so I'm as stumped as you are.

Sure enough, resyncing fixed it. Weird weird weird. and I don't think it's the leaf switch since before resyncing I used Hijaak to force DC mode and it still did the same thing (stayed on even though the ignition was off). Very strange. But fixed now!

Okay, that's two.
Empeg guys, any idea on this one? Remember that Doug never installs anything but the stock software.

Make that three. I've had this happen a handful of times, but not enough for it to really bother me. It almost seems as if there's a timer issue where it just misses the notification that the main power went out.

The bug Doug was describing, it happened consistently every time, until he synched once and then the problem went away. Was that your experience as well?

Right. There is a known problem where, if you turn your ignition on and then quickly off again (for certain values of ``quickly''), it won't notice that you've turned the car off (I still claim that this should be easy to fix).
The problem described here is something else.

What was the answer last time?
Mine just stopped doing this after a few days. I can't remember what I changed at the time, but it sure wasn't a wiring fault!

At that time, you were running a brand new installation of 2.0b11, and that was later revealed to be a known bug in 2.0b11 (the old Jiffies thing, remember?).

I guess my dumb-ish question is meant to imply - did that bug come back? (But sounds like a different bug with similar behavior)
(the old Jiffies thing, remember?).
Anytime the subject of Jiffies somes up, I just can get this image of a condom superimposed on a flag (Union Jack?) out of my mind... Weird.

This used to happen to me...but if I am not mistaken..via emplode you can adjust the time it takes for the unit to shut down after the car is turned off. I believe it was originally set for 3 minutes, but I changed it to 5 seconds...and thats that!!!
Could it possibly be this easy????

Unfortunately, no.
What you can adjust in emplode is the amount of time the unit remains in standby before powering down completely. My problem (and one or two other people's) is that the unit didn't go into standby at all -- just stayed all lit up, playlist timer counting, etc.
Synchronizing made the problem go away. I had this problem once before (same empeg, different car) and didn't know how to fix it. The problem seemed to go away all by itself -- no doubt because I synchronized the player and didn't make the connection between synching and problem resolution.
