I'm considering taking the HD plunge. Probably would get an HD DirecTv receiver & a 16x9 tube. Recommendations here?

I know that TiVo won't work, but are there any other non-tape related HD recording options out there? Anything TiVo-ish?

Moxi in some form should arrive for Winter 2003. It can record HDTV. Series 2 TiVo boxen are rumored to have removable and replaceable tuners for HDTV upgradeability. That's probably false though.

I have a Toshiba 34" 16x9 HDTV, Dish 6000 with HD card, a Microstar 6215 book pc with a MYHD card for recording OTA HDTV broadcasts. The PC is in back of my cabinet, and has a 802.11b USB network card, and I use my laptop to take control of the PC to schedule programs, etc.

You can read more about the MYHD card at http://www.digitalconnection.com/Products/Video/myhd.asp

It's great being able to timeshift HDTV. The only bummer is you can't record from the Satellite at this point in time.

I use a freeware program created by this person: http://www.midwinter.com/~bcooley/ for editing commercials out the programs I record. The coolest thing to record are the movies on ABC, because not only are they HD, but 5.1 audio also.

I'm looking to purchase a DVHS, so I can archive my recordings to tape. Right now I have a 160 gig Hard Drive, which holds around 25 hours of HDTV programming.
