It looks like the ARM processor is starting to get more support! What sort of implications do you think there will be for EMPEG???

The ARM processor is already HUGELY successful. It has many areas of the embedded market almost to itself, including mobile phones and (more recently) MP3 players.

Although we have no official relationship with them, we work closely with ARM (who are based just up the road) and have provided each other with a number of good leads. We also eat a hell of a lot of Thai food with one of their tech sales guys :-)

Rumor has it that the next Palm devices will use ARM processors. The PalmOS will be able to support the ARM, opening the possibility of many more powerful but simple embedded uses.

Hmm, what I'd heard is that they'd thrown the PalmOS out of the window because it was a huge steaming POS and just grafted the Palm UI on top of EPOC32, which is a solid, extensible (etc etc) OS properly designed for portable devices.

There has been a lot of talk amongst Palm developers about how they're so amazed Palm's TCP stack actually manages to do *anything* as it's so full of holes & held together with bits of sticky tape ;)

Well I don't know about Palm devices, but I've got an H/PC that runs on an ARM processor. I've got an HP Jornada 820 and it's actually pretty fast! I was able to play a DOOM port without any problems. I love it despite Windows CE

The jornada 820 has exactly the same CPU in it as the empeg... except the empeg is 30Mhz faster ;)

Cool! Neat to know. I was just thinking of how cool it would be to be able to use the two together somehow. But then I got to thinking what I could possibly do with an H/PC and an empeg...oh well.
