I've had my Rio Car for about 6 months with no real problems. When I tried plugging it in through ethernet and usb today I couldn't connect to it. The link light doesn't even come on. Any suggestions?

Bad wire? Can you check it with other equipment or borrow a known good cable? Does the ethernet card in teh computer work with other equipment?

What's your normal way of connecting? What OS are you running? XP and USB has known issues - check the FAQ...

What, if any, error messages do you get? Connect with serial and check the boot log - anything odd there? Does the player otherwise work as normal?

I'm pretty sure this is mentioned in the FAQ, but make sure you use a crossover cable between the Empeg and computer ethernet if you are directly connecting the two or the link light will not light. I don't think it lights at all for USB, so don't expect that.

i'm running XP. I've used the same USB cable before and it's working now with my scanner. I'm using a patch cable for ethernet plugged into my wireless access point downstairs which is how I've uploaded songs a few weeks ago.

When I got in my car today I got a hard disk not found error. I brought it in and it worked fine playing, but I still can't connect throgh ethernet or usb. I tried and got it connected to serial after locking on database download the first time I tried. Where do I check the boot log?

I'll try to get the cable replaced if I get the same error message agin. It was below freezing outside when I got the error message and I only drove a half a mile so It didn't have a chance to warm up if that was the problem. Would that cause it to not be able to connect to usb or ethernet, but connect to serial still?

Don't know. But do make sure to read carefully that entire FAQ entry and follow all of the links within, especially the one about temperature.
