This happened on the last couple of betas, and although I mentioned it off-handedly elsewere, I never posted it as an actual "bug". I just saw it when I upgraded to RC1, so I guess it's time to bring it up:

- Mark1 unit was running 12d-gaptest2, and it had a custom bootup logo installed.
- Unit was playing tunes while plugged into COM1, showing the Rorshach visual.
- I ran the RC1 upgrade.
- The upgrade worked flawlessly, even though I didn't unplug the unit or even stop it from playing tunes.
- At the end of the upgrade, it soft-booted as it always does.
- After the soft-boot, it resumed playing tunes. However the screen was semi-random garbage graphics. The left of the screen had a squished version of the Rorshach visual running, the right side seemed to be a direct view of some system RAM.
- A full reboot (unlpug/replug) made the garbage graphics go away.

I had the same "garbage" screen after upgrading my mk1 from Beta 12C to RC1 (both were developer versions). I don't have a custom logo, and I did unplug my empeg while upgrading.

Hugo has remarked elsewhere that this is a consequence of the boot speed of the new software and will always re-occur without a power down.

The boot speed was something to do with the brightness level of the display. I've not worked out why the display goes haywire after a soft reboot, as I didn't change anything...

It'll get investigated when I've finished trying to find components you can actually buy for the next batch of empegs :)

Upgraded from v1rc1 to v1 release a day or so ago and got the garbage screen again after reboot ... Upgraded my mk2 this morning when it arrived - no problems there.
