Well, my empeg has lost it's hard drives again. I've already done the ide cable fix, and my empeg is still under warranty. I've sent 2 emails to support (one to carsupport@riohome.com and the other straight to David) but haven't gotten a response. I've only waited 2 days, but driving around without my empeg is making me crazy!

Anyone know what the typical response time is these days?

Ya,

I noticed it just after I posted. Empeg not working.... cannot think without music. I'm going to refrain from starting any threads until this bugger is back up.

Elvis, I have been without my empeg for about a month now. I have truly grown to HATE radio! Now that I have had an empeg, I can't think of driving without it!

I had misplaced it one day, and was cleaning. When I pulled up on a blanket my empeg went flying through the air. One of the scariest moments of my life. Tried to boot it up... nothing. Turns out the IDE header was ripped off the mainboard, beyond repair. David has replaced the mainboard for me.
Moral: Don't drop your empeg!

I'm lucky enough to own 3 empegs. My 60(main) 30(backup) and a new 20 I haven't opened. Right now I'm using the 30. It looks like my 60 has the dry solder problem. I'm sure glad it happened before it went out of warranty!

Proof: Empeg support is the best.

Have you transplanted the hard drives between the units? This way, you get your old environment, settings and all of your music rather than a slimmed down set.

I'd thought of doing that, but all my units are still under warranty and I'd like to keep them that way (My backup has a dim display, so I need to make sure the warranty is still valid until I get that fixed)

Ah. Makes sense. I hadn't realized they were still covered.

Yes, and I think I'm going to sell my 20, while it stil is. It should be worth a little extra that way.

I had planned on giving them as gifts to people, but I can tell now that these individuals won't make use of them <sigh>..

Truely a pity. Some people get it, some people never will.
