I don't know if anyone on here cares about my constant rants and raves about the Eclipse Java IDE (www.eclipse.org), but if you happen to use it, head on over to http://www.inzyme.com and grab my SWT-based MP3 player (SWeaTAmp ) -- The core behind the UI is actually jEmplode, which is kind of cool (i.e. the database behind the MP3 player is basically an Empeg database that was created in memory instead of being downloaded). I finally just got fed up with how annoying WinAmp is and decided i really wanted the player integrated into my IDE.... Make sure you install Java Media Framework before you install the SweatAmp plugin (there's a link on the site to JMF w/ Windows Performance Pack -- sidenote: if you're not on Windows, you'll need to track down an older version of JMF before they removed MP3 support because of licensing restrictions).

That is a neat idea. I've never actually tried eclipse although I have downloaded it at least twice based on your rants Do older versions of JMF exist for OS X? The eclipse site makes it sound like it is a recent port (or maybe that is eclipse itself?).

The latest bleeding edge 2.1 Milestone 3 of Eclipse has OS X support, but it's still pretty beta (well, really it's SWT, the windowing toolkit that beta on OS X). It's useable, but it's got some flakiness about it. It's supposed to be a lot better in M4 which should be out at the end of this week/early next week.

I haven't looked for a JMF for OS X ... I'll have to look around and see. JMF on Mac has always been a weird thing, because Apple decided to ignore the JMF "standard" (standard in the Sun sense, which is just declare an API and call it standard) and created Quicktime For Java, which is basically a Java wrapper around the Quicktime API's. It's really unfortunate that Sun didn't work with one of the only companies (other than Microsoft) on Earth that had a media API before they made theirs.

OK -- pardon MY dumbass question What is MJ Studio? Maybe I wasn't clear in my first post, but this is a plugin for the Eclipse IDE only... (well, technically you can run it as a standalone app, but you need another meg of jar files and a dll that ship inside of Eclipse).

Aah. Ok. JM studio is an applet that installs with JMF 2.1.1. I figured it was a plugin for _that_. I don't have the IDE so I'll shut up now! Thanks.
