... adding an equalizer to empeg?

I just got a Kenwood equalizer, and I'm already stuck on the set-up:
- The equalizer split's the front/rear from one set of RCA input.
There are two different way's I was thinking of doing this:
#1. Simply connect the Empeg's RCA output's directly.
Except, would this be a better sound quality set-up?:
#2. To install two RCA plug's connected from the harness output wire's:
Combine the two left's (F/R) as one RCA connector. Then combine the two right's (F/R).
This may help to explain:
Please let me know if you don't advise this...

You shouldn't need to combine the front/rear RCA's to one to go into the EQ... they should both have the same line output level and combining them will gain you nothing. Just connect the fronts and leave the rears off.
But, as was stated... why not just use the empegs EQ? Or is this so you can tune each speaker set seperately?

This has come up enough times so that I've added it to the FAQ now. Thanks.

I had never seen this before, but it is another way to add the sub output, until of course maczrool finishes his sub-out board That is one advantage, sub level control up front, versus daisy chain off your rear amp, and have no control over the sub level independent of the rear.

Good point. I brought up the empeg EQ as DirtyDozen's a new poster. Assuming you didn't want to control front & rear EQ separately, couldn't one use the rear outs to the sub's amp (bridged at the amp) & use a trim pot mounted in an unused dash location to control the sub level?
Also in the diagram shown, just how are the amplifiers '(optional)'? Speaker level through RCA's? Weird.

Regarding that, I put the upgraded components (precision resistors and poly caps) onto the board and I get no sound. I haven't had a chance to find the problem. I may just build another one from scratch. Maybe this weekend I can do that.

"Erm, why not use the empeg's equalizer?"
It's a little aggravating, cous I wired my remote into the steering wheel of my truck...
I only have six button's present: The four, obvious, and vol up/down
...Something is wrong in my head about sound perfection, with music. Every "type" of music is intended to be heard, the same way it was recorded.
I also love the idea of no RCA sub connection's to remeber aboutn disconnecting...
------------------------------
"Or is this so you can tune each speaker set seperately?"
No, I have a Infinity 6X 300W just for the speaker's...
------------------------------
"Also in the diagram shown, just how are the amplifiers '(optional)'? Speaker level through RCA's? Weird."
The diagram is from a .pdf of my equalizer's manual...
I just wanted to show a slight example of what connection I was talking about...
------------------------------
So i'm guessing to connect the front L/R as a "Main" source of audio into the equalizer...
I would think there would be a difference if I combine the four wire's into two set's of RCA plug's...
(There's nothing in the FAQ that realy answer's these type's of question's...)
Thank's to y'all...

Just curious, does anybody else find DirtyDozen's posts really hard to read? My poor brain gets confused with all the colour changes and italics, and I keep thinking things are being quoted. It's interesting that this forms such a large barrier to me reading them!
DirtyDozen: I'm not trying to be rude, and by all means keep your current style, I'm just commenting that I find it hard to understand!

I still haven't figured out what that last post said. So yes. The incessant misuse of apostrophes doesn't help.

I'm curious, what is the voltage level of the stock Empeg RCA outputs?

So sorry for irritating your sensitive eye's. I'm a graphic designer, and don't believe in anything less than 110%.
"The incessant misuse of apostrophes doesn't help."
Wfaulk: Thank you, I needed that...
The only answer I was after was: If it was "bad" to...
Combine the FL (+/-), and the RL (+/-) together...
Combine the FR (+/-), and the RR (+/-) together...
(Note: 1st letter = North/South, 2nd letter = East/West)
The reason for doing the above, is to create 2 RCA, (Phono), plug's.
Thanks for the complaints

I don't know if it's bad -- it's possible, maybe even likely -- but it certainly doesn't gain you anything. So, at the very least, I wouldn't bother.

Ahh ok. Don't combine the outputs together. Just use the front ones and be sure to shield/protect the back ones.
Several fonts and colors in one post are difficult to sort through.
Maybe Hugo can reply with a definitive answer.

I believe that just twisting together the cables will cause one output pre-amp to drive the other. ie. the front left pre-amp pushes a signal back up to the rear left pre-amp.
A balancing amp would do this for you but for what?
If you're using an external device for crossover functions, just run the front outputs of the empeg straight to your EQ/Crossover. this would give you the three channels (F/R/S). You could still use the empeg rears as another sub/rear output with another amp if you want, but getting the balance right would be a bit more involved.
