I just got my 2nd hard drive installed, and its working great, thanks to the FAQ guide. (Thanks to whoever wrote that up, by the way). The only problem I have is an annoying sound that the release mechanism on the front of the player is making now. It happens when i lift it or let it down to put the player in the car / remove it, etc.

I realize that this is most likely caused by the hex screws being too tight or whatever, but I can only make them so loose! Iit seems that without them in at all, the sound is nonexistant, but when i get them even remotely secure, it returns. Any suggestions or ideas? WD-40? heh..

Tfabris is the one you need to thank for the FAQ. For your problem look here I know it says My handle sticks in the "open" position. Can I fix it? but this will fix your problem.

You're welcome.

Can you describe the "noise" in more detail?

It sounds like the springs are rubbing up against the case, or something like that. I tried doing the stuck handle fix, but it didnt seem to fix the problem..

My handle springs do make "tink-tink" noises when I open and close the handle. I never minded it. Is that all that's happening?

Hmm, I thought for shure the stuck handle fix would take care of it, wierd. Maybe the springs got a little smooshed when you took the drive out and really are rubbing the case.

Yeah, that is probably it. It really isnt that bad, I am just annoyed easily by rattles, squeaks, etc. . I just figured since it just started after I installed the new hard drive, that maybe I could undo it. But perhaps I did mess something up during installation.

Damn wealthy spring manufacturers too greedy to pay any attention to making sqeak-free products. Sounds like a good mission for project mayhem...

My springs used to rattle, 'till I coated everything they could easily touch with a thin layer of rubber cement. Fixed.
