I have been watching my empeg's progress from the UK to British Columbia, Canada, and here's where its at currently:

"11 Aug 2000 13:09 Toronto Held customs-awaiting clearance instructions from receiver"

Me, as the receiver: "your instructions are to SEND THE DAMN PACKAGE!"

Now, knowing Canada Customs, they are writing me a LETTER or something outlining duty, exchange, etc., and lettermail from Toronto could be 4-8 days, not counting return.

Has anyone here contacted them DIRECTLY by phone? If so, can I just tell them the carrier name (TNT) and the tracking number (xxxx) and work out any arrangements via telephone?

Any ideas, anyone = thanks.

I called TNT at (905) 678-2770 and they were more or less able to tell me what was going on with my empeg.

As for duties and such, I didn't have to pay any, but that's a different story, I am not sure if you will have to pay any but please let us all know if you do.

P.S. They also said it had to stay in customs for about 24 hours (WHY??? they didn't really give a good reason) because it was a high value parcel at over $1,200.00 US.

Good Luck with it!

#170... I got SN: 080000101 12 gig Blue!

NEVERMIND!

I wrote that message from home, on lunch, and when I got back to work, the box was sitting on my desk.

SWEEEEEEET.

Thats incredible...from what I can tell, it left Cambridge, England on Wednesday morning, and it arrived here, in BC, by noon on Friday.

I have only had time to open the box to confirm its in there. (Stupid high-compression project at work...)

By the way, was anyone else's empeg box in an OPENED state when they got it? I can understand that Customs needed to peek inside, sure, but they obviously put it back on the truck without taping it back up!!!!????

I ordered my unit (36Gb, Blue) on a monday, confirmed shipping on friday 8/25, and it showed up at my door the following tuesday, it sat in Toronto on sunday and monday, TNT called and confirmed the order and wanted to know how to deal with customs (Seems like they deal with some other brokerage), so broker fees were 28 bucks, duty was like 3 bucks, tax another 200, and it left TO monday night, and arrive in Calgary tuesday morn, and my door this afternoon!!

And I can wait to get it into my station wagon!!!!

Nah, most likely your coworkers couldn't resist taking a peek.
