hi, I've got a 30Gb rio car (was 60Gb until I sold the second hard disk which had no tunes to speak of left on it, as I moved them all from drive 1 to drive 0 first), now I want to replace the 30Gb with a bigger disk.

Whats my options for a fast & simple "in place" disk upgrade?

run disk builder on the new disk (having removed the current 30Gb first), then do a partition to partition copy?

I'm not that worried about the dynamic data.

Any comments appreciated.

Errr.. why not just install a second disk in the unit? Or am I missing the point?

I want to swap out the current 30Gb disk with a newer larger one, but ending up with still only 1 disk installed.
So, I want to move the songs and stuff from my current drive0 to my new drive0
[which I can temporarily install as drive1 to copy files over, then replace the current drive0 with the new one].

I just want to keep this as simple as possible.

I did something very similar to this yesterday when I replaced a 20GB with a 40GB....

Ran disk builder on the new HDD
Set the new HDD to slave alongside the drive it was to replace
Copied the fids dir from to the new (Drive upgrade Guide step 7)
    Set replacement as master
Synch with Emplode afterwards to rebuild db*.

I found it quite easy and the copying took about 3.5 hours for 20GB, I didn't retain playcounts or anything else, just the music.

* The Emplode synch took so long to show progress I thought something had gone wrong
