I've had a few people ask for the special shouldered screws that hold the rear docking connector onto the player unit.

These are known to sometimes come loose: they were either not correctly tightened at the factory, or they work loose.

The inevitable result is that the screws fall out and the connector hangs loose - this could cause a problem when you try to remove the player from the sled.

Can I suggest that you (occasionally) just check your player to make sure that the screws are secure. Don't overtighten them: if possible, put a drop of Loctite, or similar locking fluid on the thread, tighten to finger tightness with the correct size Philips screwdriver (not Jeweller's screwdrivers, as they do not purchase correctly and can damage the head irreparably) and then give a slight twist to lock them in place. Allow the fluid time to set.

There is little remaining spare stock of this item, so please be careful with the ones you have!

Just a note for those who don't know - remember that even when the screws are fully tightened, it's normal to have play in the docking connector. Don't attempt to tighten the screws to stop the connector moving around - that will probably break something - at the very least, it will prevent the dock mating snugly. As Rob says, the screws should be little more than finger tight.

I have lost _both_ of my screws now, effectively making the empeg useless in the car.

Does anyone have an idea what size these screws were, and where to obtain replacements in the USA? I can try local car parts retailers if they are a standard size, but if they are a unique size, I would be happy to order them online.

Thanks!

They're not special thread, but they're special shape, so that even while properly torqued down, the connector is still able to move.

IIRC the connector and accessories (pins etc) is/was available from DigiKey, so they might have the special screws as well.

I replaced mine with two normal M3x15 bolts with nylock nuts on the inside of the case to lock the bolts at the correct standoff so that the connector still had free play. This worked perfectly.
