But i cant quite figure out how to tag my own songs with the lyrics and get them on the player

Well, I'm hoping that in the future, this process will be a little easier, but here's the way to go for now:
1) Find the lyrics to your song(s) on the Internet.
2) Select the text of the lyrics on the web page, and copy them (Ctrl-C usually.)
3) Open the Lyrics window in WinAMP (there should be a little icon that looks like a book in your system tray.)
4) Click on the top of the Lyrics window (just so it has focus) and hit Ctrl-L to go into "edit lyrics" mode.
5) Hit Ctrl-V to paste the lyrics into the window.
6) Hit Ctrl-D to switch into "add time tags" mode.
7) Hit the Play icon on Winamp, and, as each line comes up in the song, click that line in the WinAmp lyrics window. It will add the time tag to the left of each line. Just do it once per line, and do it when that line first begins playing.
8) Keep adding time tags until you're done.
9) Once you're done, click the little wrench icon on the lyrics window and select "Save as LRC." Save it to a file.
10) Use lrctool to add the lyrics to your MP3. (lrctool is available from the emphatic page, http://empeg.webhop.net/emphatic.html.) To add the lyrics to your MP3, run the following from a DOS prompt:
lrctool lrc2sylt filename.lrc filename.mp3

Where filename.lrc is the LRC file you saved from WinAMP, and filename.mp3 is your MP3 file. Once this is done successfully, you just need to send the MP3 over to your empeg and you're done.

Another way you could do it would be to substitute Step 9 with "save as Lyrics3" and then run lrctool with this syntax:

lrctool l32sylt filename.mp3

Either way will work, but having the LRC file separate is good so you can share it with others later.

I'm working on ways to reduce the number of steps, but right now, that's how it works. Pretty soon lrcdb.com is launching, that will provide people with a way to share LRC files, which will help reduce the amount of work for everyone involved. If you're having trouble with the above instructions, then be paitent, I'm working on some ways to make this easier.

Hope this helps.

Thank you ill try that out .It sounds pretty easy.I guess that means Ill have to replace the tagged song with the nontagged song on the Empeg and sync each time this is done.Correct?

Well, yeah. I've been discussing alternatives, but right now, that's how it works.

Oh, sorry, I figured everyone had been following previous threads.

WinAMP Lyrics is the best plugin I've seen for our purposes. There are others that write to LRC or Lyrics3 specs, but none have interfaces that I like. It's a WinAMP 2.x plugin. I haven't seen any Winamp3 components that do the job, and Winamp3 is slow enough on my system that I didn't look very hard.

Incidentally I wrote the author of Winamp Lyrics asking if he would be willing to publish/share his source, but I'm not holding my breath on a positive response.

If that doesn't pan out, would you mind giving him source to lrc2sylt and ask if he'd integrate SYLT writing into the plugin?

Well considering my stuff is written in C and his plugin is written in Delphi, I didn't think he'd care for that approach. Esp. considering he hasn't touched the lyrics plugin in upwards of 3 years.

Think you're missing a verb in there, but I'll assume you're asking how to run emphatic? Bring up the Hijack menu (hold the knob in) and "emphatic" should be one of the options. If it's not, then something probably went wrong during installation, and if that's the case, posting a boot log from the serial console will help me determine what's going wrong.

Not seeing hijack_exec in there, so I think your EXEC_ONCE entry in config.ini must be botched.. Mind posting the [hijack] section of your config.ini?

Umm... The boot log says you're on Hijack v312, and the khttpd_root_index option wasn't added until v313. I don't know if that throws off config.ini parsing or what, but certainly, it's a good idea to either upgrade to Hijack v320 or take that option out.. Otherwise, your syntax looks right and we should at least be getting an error if something else is wrong, like permission or filename errors.

<Hank Hill> That ain't right! </Hank Hill>

I was going by this:
Linux version 2.2.17-rmk5-np17-empeg52-hijack-v312

.
On my boot log (v320) I see:
Linux version 2.2.17-rmk5-np17-empeg52-hijack-v320

.

Very odd that you'd see v320 when you boot up... When I saw that, I looked at the Hijack version log and saw that the khttpd_root_index option wasn't valid for that version. That's the only explanation I could come up with as to why we aren't seeing any errors (or success messages) relating to launching emphatic. On my boot log, I get this:
hijack_exec("/usr/local/bin/emphatic"), rc=0 (okay)

.
And if there were some kind of error, we'd see a non-zero number in the "rc=" field.

So I'm officially stumped.

Is it just me or is that serial output is all mangled? Perhaps some of that log is way old. Was that from a copy and paste or from capturing the log to a file? I am thinking that some (all?) of that is from a previous run which would explain the out of date hijack and the missing exec line. Try doing to serial capture again, this time to a new file and repost it.

Attached is a captured text file.

Ahh, much better, there is hijack 320 and as genixia said it looks like the problem is that equals sign. If Mark is reading it would be nice if hijack would warn on lines that it can't parse as there is no error in that bootlog.

Okay, I took the = out
;@EXEC_ONCE /usr/local/bin/emphatic

It now looks like HiJack tries to run it.

However I get:
hijack_do_execve: execve() failed, errno = 2
hijack_exec("/usr/local/bin/emphatic"), rc=-2 (ERROR)

'chmod +x /usr/local/bin/emphatic' either from the serial or from telnetd
I'm not sure, but you may have to use rw/ro as well.

Thanks, I'll have a go at it.

I found that you can change file permissions w/ Charcoalgray's ftp browser.

And also emphatic runs now.

Thanks ever so much,

You also get this error if you have no interpreter.

Though I can't imagine he'd have a copy linked against other than /lib/ld-linux.so.2 or that that wouldn't exist on his system.
