All of the Ogg requests look to be about 6 months old. Is there any news in this area? The reason why I ask is because the first commerical device with Linux and Ogg is out as of March 1, with Ogg support coming in May. See http://neurosaudio.com/
I am eagerly waiting for Ogg!!

I'd say the car player is commercial (even if no longer manufacturered), runs Linux, has been out for almost four years, and will have Ogg before May.

We could release it tomorrow if we wanted - but I think it would be prudent to do a little testing, considering nobody has run a car player trunk build in the last year or two.

If I understand that correctly, everyone at Empeg Towers has been running software from a development trunk for that long?
I hope so...

2.0 is on a branch. The trunk is used to build other projects, but by the magic of autobuilders and nag scripts the car continues to build successfully. It even seems to run.

Thank you ROB!!! You all rule. I had doubts that it would ever happen. At least now I can start re-encoding everything and know it's not going to be wasted.
A lot of my MP3s are [censored] (note: that's a technical term, look for unfuck.exe on google) or are getting there.

Hey Rob, (or anyone that knows) what's the CPU usage like between the two formats?

From what I remember, it's actually more processor intensive to decode Ogg Vorbis than MP3. But that also could be because there are more optimised assembler versions of the MP3 codec available.

That's not nessesarily a bad thing. If it sounds better, and you have some to spare, then it's a good thing, because hopefully, (and seemingly) the processing power is proportional to audio quality.

Don't get me started on this one! I got so angry in school where we'd have test on computers and the guy next to me complained that he got a "B" because his program compiled, never mind it didn't do what the assignment said. Meanwhile we'd get these written tests where we'd have to write the code down by hand. I got downgraded to a "B" because I left off a few semicolons, never mind that I had the logic right.

Those are the dumbest kinds of tests ... Why would you test a human on a compiler's job? That's why we have compilers.
Oh well.

Um, May is over in 2 hours for me. I know begger's can't be choosers, but can we get an ETA for the beta containing Ogg?

So Mark, are you allowed to comment on how the 3.0 alpha looks?
Come on please! Pretty please!

The released 3.0 alpha is pretty bad, but internally I believe it is much better now - time for another release I guess.
As for public releases, I'm tossing around this idea of bringing a stack of CD's to Amersfoort this year..

Anything released at Amersfoort will be released to the web afterwards, if it is considered to be stable enough!

I don't think you're going to see a beta version if they're still having trouble with the alpha. Based on what Rob's said it looks like we might only have a little longer to wait, though.
