I'm looking for a decent TV that is probably around 27" (not sure - I don't watch TV often enough to know what size is good) that is going to be dedicated to a GameCube system.

Does anybody have suggestions on decent makes/models for such a beast? I figure I am going to end up setting it on a wall swivel mount, but that depends on the size of the TV I guess.

A 27" would probably easily sit on one of the swivel mounts they sell at Best Buy. Those work well. I bought one for my mother and my girlfriend.

Well, the GC can, I believe, do progressive scan with the right cables, so you should include that in the equation. 27" is a fine size, but that would probably depend on the room. Flat screens also look a lot nicer, especially with video games.

I picked up a Sony Wega 27FS100 last November for ~$430 (there was a $50 coupon in the paper) at BestBuy.
I'm quite happy with it, picture & sound are great, and it has plenty of inputs for my needs, but then I am using it for regular TV & DVD viewing.
Toshiba have a very similarTV at around the same price.

Are you going to use component inputs or just the regular composit inputs?
And how much of a budget do you have?

The Sharp 32U-S600 might be a good buy, its a 36" (weighs 133.4 lbs) with component inputs for ~$450 and give you a hugh screen, of course this might be too big for the room.

Don't get caught in the "bigger is better" trap. The size you want is dictated by how far away from it you will be.

When I bought the TV set for my bedroom, I measured the distance between my pillow and the table that would hold the TV. Then I went to the TV store, paced off that same distance from the row of TV sets, then sidled down the row seeing which looked best. Some were too big -- I couldn't see the entire picture without moving my eyes or my head around to take it all in. Some were too small -- had to look closely to see what was going on.

You want the biggest screen that you can look at and see all four corners simultaneously at the distance you will be watching from.

I understand your point, but there's something to be said for immersion as well. I have a 36" screen that I sit about 10' from and it's just fine. I could stand it to be bigger, but I don't have the room. Also note that I watch a lot of ``letterboxed'' programming, so if you do the same, you might have to tweak your idea of what the four corners are.

Hehe, that is my entire philosophy with TV's I don't mind the eye movement, my attention is usually towards the center of the screen anyways. I sit about 10' away from a 45" TV* and I love it!

*of course, I don't think you can find my TV anymore. it's an 18 year old Mitsubishi, complete with wood paneling!

I think we are twins seperated at birth, I love sitting close to my 45"' mitsubishi complete with the wood paneling

I haven't had to repair it once, but my friend the other day said that I need something realigned (???) because the text (to him) on the screen is not aligning properly. Have you had this problem yet with your mitsubishi?

We just had one problem where a component inside broke and the picture couldn't display (not sure exactly what it is), but the repaiman was like "these things usually break about every 4 years", and that was about 3-4 years ago when the TV was 15 years old

Other than that, it's been a great TV. It and my dad's 10 year old 60" Mitsubishi have really made me confident in their brand of TV's.

yeah mitsubishi seems to always be sold in the tv world. They seem to last really long with little or no maintenance needed at all. If I do upgrade one day, I will be sure to look into mitsubishis first.
