I know since Emphatic came out most of us have been adding lyrics to our MP3s and now have a stack of LRC files. I've gone ahead and put up a fully working Lyrics Archive at http://lyrics.archivist.us/ So far it only has albums that I have lyriced myself and nothing else. However, if you all want to submit your lyrics so we can start keeping a nice little collection so we don't have to do it twice, that would be awesome.
I'll be monitoring traffic and such, and Drakino has already offered me authentication using the forum or RioCar.org so we can keep people out. I really don't have to worry about bandwidth usage however since it's my box.
If anyone has some suggestions, I'm more than happy to entertain them. I'm thinking about doing a lyric search, but I dunno yet.
Enjoy!

Wow, it looks good! But we also have justinlarsen and ricin working on a lyrics archive at www.lrcdb.com, I'm surprised you didn't happen to notice this. Looks like you're the first to hit the market, but ricin tells me lrcdb.com is only about a week or two away.
I think the community is served better by having one site, not two competing ones. Maybe you guys should huddle up and see who's going to have more time, or if you can team up to work on one site, or something like that.

Ahh Yeah I didn't even see that mentioned anywhere ahha. Yeah I've been working on this off an on for a week now, sat down the last two days and got it pretty much finished. I also agree that two competing sites isn't good hehe.
But yeah I'm more than willing to share my stuff and see what we can do additionally.

Damien and I have spoken, and have agreed to combine our efforts and concentrate on lrcdb.com. He has submitted his code to me for possible use, and I'll be sure to consult him for future feature requests, upgrades, and the like.
Good work Damien, btw.

Thanks
I always felt kinda bad that I've just leeched stuff off everyone while I had nothing to provide to the community. It's nice to see that I was able to do something, while simple, should help out.

Yup, this is part of the reason I'm doing this in the first place. I figure I owe a ton of people on here, and this is the best way for me to contribute. Plus, it's something else that I've coded that is live on the internet, and useful (at least I hope so), and therefore good for the resume.

xanatos,
In the future it won't matter much, but right now your site would be a whole lot more usable if instead of listing out the alphabet, you just included the letters that actually have something behind them. Or just gray out the rest of the letters.
We all appreciate your efforts though!

Nice to see that you guys are teaming up to work on lrcdb.com. It seemed like quite a bit of work for just two people.

So whatever happened to the lyrics archive? The lyrics.archivist.us site is uncontactable, and the www.lrcdb.com still says "coming soon". Are there any alternative sites on the internet where I can get .lrc files? If not is there any software to simplfy the process of writing your own .lrc files?

If not is there any software to simplfy the process of writing your own .lrc files? I use the plugin for WinAmp called "Winamp Lyrics (Explorer Version) v1.22" that's found here.
Pretty painless to use, once you understand its slightly cryptic user interface. You have to enable a couple of features, then paste the lyric into a window. Then play the song, and click on each line just before the singer sings that line. It inserts the timestamps for you each time you click. Then I save it to the file as a "Lyrics 3.2" tag.
Unfortunately, that program doesn't save to a proper SYLT tag, so I have to use Ynot's LRCTOOL converter program to convert the Lyrics 3.2 tag to a proper SYLT tag. This sounds like work, but since I've set it up on a right-click shell extension, I actually only have to right-click on the file and pick the appropriate menu item and it's essentially automatic.
Assuming I've got a good (accurate) lyric text file, I can tag an MP3 for emphatic, basically in the same amount of time it takes to listen through the song once.

I've been half side-tracked, and half procrastinating.
I'm not even sure if it's such a great idea with everyone being sue-crazy.
Anyway, it's on the back burner, but it is still there.
For now, you can checkout the LRCdb ftp site as mentioned here. Thanks to the contributions of many users here the collection is coming along nicely.

You'll be pleased to know I've been working on a "Winamp Lyrics (Explorer Version) v1.22" clone and I got it pretty shapped up. And the best part: it WILL be writing directly in SYLT frames... ;-)
Right now, I've got all the functionnalities of the it (those who use it will understand: CTRL-L, CTRL-T and CTRL-D as well as CTRL-A and CTRL-B and CTRL-R) and even got millisecond timestamp option working. FF and REW are well handled and seeking by double-clicking a lyrics line also works...It currently only save to .lrc files but in the next 2 to 3 weeks, I plan to include the SYLT saving/reading. Will keep you informed... Just a little patience...

Sounds great. I found this great plugin just tonight. It usues google and tries to find the lyrics to whatever song is playing. It's surprisingly accurate with my collection so far. It'd be great to combine it with the lyrics tagger.
