The band Kritickill has been getting play on DirecTV's Metal Music Choice channel (channel 816). They funded the entire CD themselves and are still not signed. I contacted management, and they want me to send money to "Trainwreck," the band's guitarist to get a copy. This just sounds a bit odd to me, so I was wondering if anyone here can grab a copy for me.

I would send you money, postage, and something extra. Let me know.... Thanks

Greetings!

I am not in Texas, but that is not that unusual for a small band to have one of their members in charge of finances. Or at least selling and collecting money for CDs.

Even so, the offer still stands. I feel more comfortable dealing with someone here than with the band whom I don't know at all.

Trainwreck could be some crazy coke head blowing all the band's money on blow.

Paul is right on this one. There is an unsigned band in Wisconsin (downface) that I'm fond of. Twice I've sent checks to the drummer for CDs that they put out themselves. On the 2nd disc, the band signed the booklet and the drummer included a handwritten note thanking me for continued support. Boy, do I hope they get famous now.

So don't think it odd for one of the band members to be in charge of finances, like Paul says, when they're unsigned.

BTW, I think I actually found this band using Napster... oh so long ago...

heh, not that it will bolster Rob's confidence any... but i get about 80% of my cd's by ordering it straight from the band. It's always cheaper than in a store and i feel better about giving my cash straight to them than to Amoeba or Tower, or *shudder* Virgin.

Yeah back in the day when I was in a band we had a few self-released/funded CDs and all the money went to the trombone player since he was the most reliable member. Its typical business for unsigned bands.

I live in Houston. The band's web site says they "exploded out of Central Texas", so I suppose that means Austin. I could try poking around local record stores, but the odds of finding it sound slim.

Judging from the tank photos and the fact they actually play in Killeen and Harker Heights, I'd say they, or at least one of them are/were stationed at Fort Hood. I'm going to look at Waterloo here in Austin today.

Well Waterloo Records didn't have them, and they usually have the local stuff if it's available, so I assume they haven't distributed it to local stores and may only be selling through Mr Trainwreck... I'd say order and if they don't send it, I'd pay them a visit for you, but they look a bit scary with the shaved heads and goatees and all...
