Well, I finally received my fully completed tuner (thanks mlord!) and took it over to my trusty local CarToys to get it installed. Much to my dismay, they told me that it is very highly likely that it will not fit in my VW Passat dash behind the stereo, as there was barely enough room for the wires / harness, much less the tuner box. Anyhow, tommorow they are gonna rip it open for me and see if there is anywhere they can put it; if not, I guess I will be putting it up for sale here (unless someone can offer an alternative suggestion)..

If worse comes to worse, I'd sure hate to part with it, but at least it would have a nice home with someone here.

I'd be tucking it inside the air vents. Cut a hole, insert, seal. Then again, it's not my car. And my car's paid for.

Well, I don't recall exactly how similar the dash is to a VW Polo, but for me the (original) tuner module fit off to the side, right next to the DIN sized space. Not sure if a pca tuner would fit there though, as it's, IIRC, somewhat taller than the original... There was no chance at all to fit it directly behind the HU, so use of the extension harness was required.

Yeah... definitely try and make an extender so you can put it off to the side somewhere... there's gotta be a place. Damned if i'd let those bastards rip open my tuner that's for sure.

If an original tuner but not a pca tuner will fit, maybe you can trade with someone.

There's some limit to the length of the cable though. No idea what the exact length is but I wouldn't exceed it as you're directly connected to the SA. Patrick or Hugo should know.

- Trevor is wondering what products Granite and Hamster are...

I have an original tuner I'd be willing to trade. I have plenty of room to fit a larger tuner. It's been used for about 3 months, is currently in my truck. Just let me know.

Ahh, good. I only just now noticed this thread, and was wondering if the post office had ever delivered it! I shipped it out to you three days after I received it from Patrick.

Cheers

Well, if it's anything like my Golf, it'll be straight forward. There isn't enough room in the DIN slot, this much is true, but have you tried behind the passenger glove box? If you reach below the glove box, can you find a bit of material screwed to the underside? You should be able to pull this away and install the tuner above this. It's pretty easy to run some wires from the DIN slots to here. Actually, I found a nice little gap in behind dash above this piece of material and wedged the tuner in there. Took me about 5 minutes to install the tuner, and run the wires up to the Empeg.

I'm sure there's somewhere to put it, without resorting to cutting up air vents or anything.

Didn't have the time to find the pic this morning, but here's a picture of where the tuner lives in my Polo. The space might actually be enough for the pca tuner, but getting it in there would probably be difficult (without cutting into the triangular shaped piece) since I had to slightly flex that triangular piece to get the original tuner in there.

Given the length of the extention wires on the tuner, I am really surprised at this. The position of the DIN slot on the tuner lends itself to an installation behind the glove box sleeve. Do these guys know what they are doing?

Well, I was able to get it installed. Hooray! But I must say my reception is a little less than I would have liked. I imagine it is because of the new antenna I threw on my car, but it definitely comes and goes quie a bit while driving. :\
