Ok, first off, i have searched the FAQ and this site for my answer, i couldn't find it. I have 2 network cards in my computer, 1 that hooks up to the LAN in my dorm (internet connection/file sharing) and the other to my empeg. so far that works fine (as in i can connect to my empeg and the internet at the same time w/out problems) what i want to do is let other people on the LAN connect to my empeg through the hijack browser (the one you get by typing the ip address into explorer) now it seems to me that this should be posible. i just havent figured out how. I have win2k most of my friends are running XP. so how would i do this? or can i? i am somewhat networking literate and have tried a couple things, but nothing has worked yet.

Why two network cards? Why not just plug everything (your PC, other computers, the empeg) into a hub? That's the reason the other PCs can't see the empeg. Plug everything into a hub and they'll all see each other.

not allowed hubs : ) this isnt my LAN, otherwise i would have one. i could probably get away with one, but i was wondering if there was a way to do it like this first.

Not allowed?? How the hell would they know? Do they actually search your room for Networking equiptment? That's some weirdness right there. I guess the whole IP thing would be a problem though wouldnt' it...

yes, actualy they do keep an eye out for them, but im good friends with my RA and could get it by, but like i said, id rather not if i can help it

If the IP is a problem, I'd just recommend a small router. Network Everywhere offers quite a few routing options for not much more than some hubs. I got a 4 port router at CompUsa for $29! Then you could port forward to your peg so others could stream or whatever.

The nice thing is since the router is so small you could cleverly enough hide the thing so any RA with more important things on his mind would overlook it. Plus, I'd imagine the common Residential Advisor couldn't fathom how a car stereo could be hooked up to a LAN in the first place and wouldn't begin to think that you were not following networking policy. I would think a few cleverly placed potted plants should do the trick - dead or alive.

What if you have multiple computers? Having a desktop and a laptop is not exactly far-fetched.

What you are looking to do is called NAT (Network Address Translation). In this case the specific setup is called 1-to-Many NAT meaning you have one external ip address (you school/dorm network connection) and any number of internal ones. You will also need some form of port forwarding to enable the traffic to reach the empeg. There are several products available for doing this on windows, one I know from the top of my head is WinGate (http://www.deerfield.com/products/wingate).
If you're running Linux, it's all built in and you just have to set it up (http://tldp.org/HOWTO/IP-Masquerade-HOWTO/index.html).

If they don't want you to have a hub, they sure as hell wouldn't want you to mess around this method. If you really wanted, you could just tuck the hub inside the computer case or something.

It they are diligent, they can scan the switch for multiple MAC addresses on a single port.

How about turning on Internet Connection Sharing on your machine? You will need to forward the correct port to the Empeg.
