I'm looking for a cd receiver recommendation for my 96 4Runner that can be installed with my empeg (cd-receiver would be the head unit). I thought cd-receivers with aux input would be fairly common, but it doesn't appear to be case (am I wrong?).

I don't want to spend a ton of money on it, since I'll probably be making the empeg the head unit in the future (when the tuner module is out), maybe around $200-$250.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Neil.

In case anyone else with a 4Runner is interested, I ended up going with a kenwood KDC-315S. Along with this I got the kenwood CA-C1AX adapter (available at crutchfield) to adapt the cd changer connector (for kenwoods) to an aux-in.

My, that was quick. Looks like it was only a couple of hours between your original post asking for recommendations and the final purchase.

If we'd known we had a deadline, maybe we could have worked a little harder at getting some recommendations prepared.

Sounds like you're pretty well set, since you got the Aux-in adapter. Did you get a mounting kit and wiring harness, to? Does your dash have a double-din opening, and is the mounting kit going to cover both openings?

One final note: You got a Kenwood receiver. The Empeg's remote sends kenwood commands. You might be forced to cover or disable the Kenwood receiver's IR input, or else it might respond to all the commands you intend for the Empeg.

Or buy the low-low end Kenwood(like the KDC-215S I just stuffed in my car this evening) that has no IR. (215s or 115s). Now that this & my two amps are installed my speakers sound a lot worse. Another $180 should fix that...

Note- the 215S doesn't have an input though.

Yes, I got it quickly. I asked the question, but I was still surfing looking for one that fit my needs and budget. I was just lucky enough to find it right after I posted (I had been looking for a couple of hours before that).

Neil.
