Hi All. This will seem silly to most of you, but it was exciting for me.

I have a 20 month old baby girl that sits in the front with me when I drive. She has been watching the empeg boot for a while now, but yesterday she waved back at the waving penguin and said 'hi' to it.

The waving penguin is the only reason I haven't installed hijack yet, and it looks like it's paid off.

Smile!

Very cute!

BTW, you CAN install Hijack, and then put the original waving Tux logo back using jEmplode.

Hi,

I know I can replace the logo in hijack, but between work, the baby, and the baby coming next week, I just haven't had time to do it. Also no time to do anything with the empeg buy play it. I'm looking forward to trying out gpsapp some time in 2005.

Awww, thanks, that's so cute! (/me gets a warm fuzzy. )

I waved back at the penguin (as did some of my passengers) from day one. It was the intended effect when I created that animation.

The waving penguin is the only reason I haven't installed hijack yet, and it looks like it's paid off.
As was already stated elsewhere in the thread, you can put the original waving penguin back after installing Hijack. Instructions on how to do this are here, and my original animation file for the waving penguin is here. Just load that into Jemplode and send it to Hijack.

If the car doesn't have an airbag, it's not as big of a deal if she's securely fastened and it's a good car seat.

I agree that the center of the back seat is the safest place, but the front-seat thing is only a *huge* deal if the car has an airbag.

Heck, we didn't have airbags, child safety seats, or *seatbelts* when I was growing up! We survived! (most of us)

Which is amazing, considering you can't even be left unattended with a box cutter.

true about the airbags. But if she is waving back at Tux that means she can see him and so she must be facing forwards. That's a big no-no, thats what big brother tells me anyways.

Hi Heather,

This car has no air bags and I can keep an eye on her in the front. In the back, she is very dedicated to get out of the seat.

>true about the airbags. But if she is waving back at Tux that means she can see him and so she must be facing forwards. That's a big no-no, thats what big brother tells me anyways.

She's past the weight of fitting into seats that face backwards. Also, that rule was based on very narrow thinking. Statistically, more cars are involved in front end crashes than rear end (because all rear end crashes usually involve another car front ending your rear end, and cars do front end other things) so the babies sit backwards. This assumes all drivers are equally crappy. I've only been in three crashes in 25 years, all rear enders while sitting at a stop light and I had nowhere to go to avoid it. So it seems for paranoid drivers like me, the rear ender would be more common.

I'm also picky about where I'll drive with her. I don't take the freeway with the baby in the car, and most importantly, I don't play with the empeg. That thing is so entertaining my driving has become worse! I almost think it would be better to trunk mount it and have only the Sony stalk up front.

But if you do, you lose the opportunity to watch your cute little daughter wave cutely at the cutely waving cute penguin.
