This hardly falls into the category of earth-shattering, survival-threatening mayhem, but it is a small annoyance.
The screws protruding from the bottom of the empeg are just long enough that they mar the finish on my desktop if I slide the empeg around rather than pick it up and set it down.

Yes, on some units (it depends on the M3 insert type being fitted by the metalwork people) the screws can protrude - we've moved to shorter ones now.
Hugo ps: a mousemat makes an ideal empeg rest :)

You could call them music mats, but they would still be usable as mouse mats, hence calling them such... =)
However, you might find the use of one improves the sound quality (back to the isolation pad for CD players argument... =)
Only joking, don't flame... =)

Would I be risking death and destruction by taking a Dremel tool and grinding off the half millimeter or so of the screw ends that are protruding beyond the base of the empeg?

Mmm, probably not but I'd be worried about metal fragments somehow ending up inside the case...

The other problem would be the vibration loosening the threadlock, thus causing the screws to slowly undo themselves and drop into the case while in motion, eventually shorting out the power supply, setting fire to the car, causing a major accident, and wiping out thousands of innocent commuter's lives.
Bummer ;)
Patrick.

Hi, However, you might find the use of one improves the sound quality (back to the isolation pad for CD players argument... =)I can provide a special green pen at great cost, you run a thin line around the exterior of the empeg that will enhance the sound quality. I'll put duct tape (temporarily) over the cooling holes on the sides and the connectors on the backplane.

I was expecting one of the Empeg guys to jump in here and say this... If you use a dremel tool to grind/cut metal, heat is generated. I don't know how much heat just to make those screws shorter. But if it's a lot of heat, then you could be talking about damaging the circuits on the motherboard. It's just a caution: the unit gets pretty hot in the dash as it is so I know it can take SOME heat. Just be careful as you're dremeling not to make the metal too hot in the process.

Yeah. Sounds like he's speaking from experience, so watch out.

You haven't seen his jet boat yet.Oh, come on. Thanks to the latest technology and brilliant design, we are confident the casualties will be kept within acceptable levels. Opinions expressed in this email may contain up to 42% water by weight, and are mine. All mine.

Thanks to the latest technology and brilliant design, we are confident the casualties will be kept within acceptable levels. This sounds suspiciously like the technical documents at the web sites for those "personal flying machine" things they're developing. They have euphamisms like "engine failure is a statistical nonevent." Hmmm... ___________ Tony Fabris

Hmm, make sure it is indeed temporarily. I remember an airliner that had its static air ports (needed for instruments that measure airspeed, altidute and vertical speed) temporarily taped over during maintenance....

A dab of silicon over the ends of the screws might protect your desk too.
