Sale prices will be good for all orders placed before 9AM Friday morning eastern time.

I'm doing pre-order because the sleds are done, but some packing material has not shown up yet. It should be here tomorrow (friday) or monday next week.

I will have at least 3 sleds with me at the Texas meet this weekend. If you're coming to the meet and want to save shipping costs, you can buy there at the sale price.

OK, I think that's it.

I can't seem to order as it just comes back with "no items in cart" after logging in...

Any ideas?

Rob,

Is there a way to reserve one of the units that you are bringing to the Texas meet?

I tested the cart yesterday and all seemed well. I have one order since I posted this, so it's working for someone.

I will see if I can break it.

Actually, the radio buttons when you log in... there is no default selected. I hate to acuse you of overlooking that, but that is a possibility.

Either way Hugo, if you can wait till the european meet and you want a sled, I would surely give one to you free of charge.

Man, those things look really nice.

So now just to be clear, to make the sled just like the original, I'm gonna need RCA connectors, a serial connector, a bunch of wire, some sort of multi-pin quick disconnects, and soldering ability? Hmm, the only things I'm gonna need to find are quick disconnects and soldering ability.

Anyone sell these already put together, or plan to?

Yes (or transplant the connector / wiring harness from an existing sled)

Rob sells the connector and pins needed as well on the site.

You need RCA connecters, various wire, and a DB9 serial connecter.

The pins on the docking connector are designed to be crimped on, but that doesn't work so well, so soldering them in there is best. The tuner connecter should be soldered regardless (I think). I haven't built one yet and don't plan to in the near future at least.

I've crimped a couple of tuner connectors (for home docks) and there's no big issue there, so long as the correct size crimper is used.

Cheers

Not complaining- just confused. If after buying this, I still need "RCA connectors, a serial connector, a bunch of wire, some sort of multi-pin quick disconnects, and soldering ability", what exactly am I paying $65 for? Thanks.

The $65 is for the custom metal enclosure. Originally, direct from Empeg Ltd, these were US$150 wired, so $65 unwired is very reasonable.

$65 unwired is damn cheap for a custom built sled powder coated and textured black. $12 for the connector and $5 for the rest at Radio Shack is nothing considering how hard those connectors are to come by.

Well, the $65 is just for the metal. There's another $12 for the somewhat hard-to-source connectors.

Well, the $65 is just for the metal

$65 just for the metal? That's preposterous. Why, I could make one of those myself for about $3 worth of sheet metal, maybe 50-60 hours of my time, and a couple thousand dollars worth of tools!

Very nice work that Rob has done. I'd buy one in a minute but I already have an extra sled...

Perhaps we don't remember what Empeg Ltd commanded for a sled with a pre-wired connector. I recall it being in the $129 neighborhood.

I can't afford to pay someone to wire-up 50 wire harnesses and I don't have the time to do it myself. So, for $65 + $12 for odd-ball connectors you gotta do it yourself... or hire some day workers to do it for you.

Something no one's pointed out yet:

You don't actually need all of those parts unless you intend to actually use every single connection. For instance, if you don't plan to use the serial connector in the car, you don't need to hook one up. And you don't need all six RCA connectors unless you intend to use all the front, rear, and aux connections. A totally bare bones install might only need a few wires and two RCA plugs.

Actually, this is part of my Cunning Plan to fit more stuff in my dashboard. All those connectors take up room, and I'd like to chop it down to just the necessary stuff without ruining one of my orginal wiring harnesses.

What about the inline fuse? Should I worry about it? I've blown it once, so it must be doing something...

Yes. Remember that fuses are mostly there to protect against your car burning to the ground. An important thing for some people.
