Perhaps you kind people can answer a question that has bugged my family and friends and I for a while now.

Why are new DVDs and CDs released on Tuesdays?

I'm sure there must be some logical reason for this. Tuesday seems so arbitrary. I mean, I can understand when movies come out on Wednesday nights (bigger "weekend" gross), but I don't usually see CD and DVD sales being measured like that.

So, any ideas??

I don't know for a fact, but I'm willing to bet if you look at the timing for Soundscan's surveys, Tuesday is probably the first day of the weekly charts.

Now in the uk they are realeased on a monday as sales are counted from sunday night to make up the next weeks charts.

Also the annoying habit of sending a song out for radio play about at least a month normally 2 before the song is released so everyone gets to here the song and goes out and buys the record in the first week so it can striaght in at No1

You'd think eventually they'd work out that it's counterproductive to create huge amounts of demand for a song before it's available through any legal channel...
