Is there a device that can basically plug into the back of the Empeg so I can connect it to a wireless network? I dont' wanna connect it to a laptop, just into the device. Is that possible? I saw this..Here

I've got a Orinoco EthernetConverter but you still need a PCMCIA card for it. It's probably cheaper to go for the Linksys that Rob pointed out.

yes, stay away from the orinoco ethernet converter. it is possible to make it work, but it costs an arm and a leg, and the configuration software appears to have been written by dim-witted orangutans in madagascar.

I used to have an Orinoco EC. It's an antique compared to the WET11. Although, the Orinoco will probably outlast the Linksys.

Yeah. The features of the EC are nowhere near what the WET11 offers. I got the EC-S at the time because I needed the serial port ability but it turns out that I never used that part. Also I don't think the WET11 was available.

D-link's competitor to the WET11 is on Buy.com's 4-hour sale today. Good price compared to the WET11, but I have no experience with it.

Thanks for the link my friend. I just ordered two and took the slow-boat free shipping. I'll let you know how they are when I get them in a month! One for the car (perhaps) and one for the basement.

Definitely let me know how they work. It seems smaller than the WET11 which could be advantageous.

Luckily for you, one of their main shipping centers is in Harrisburg, PA, so you should get it by mon. at the latest (according to UPS)

I ordered another item with it, then fat-fingered the cancel and canceled the DLink box. Of course, in the process the 4 hour sale ended. Oops.

I saw that in my Amazon.com Gold Box the other day. The poor reviews on their site convinced me not to go for it.

I sent them mail and asked how to uncancel. I figure they'll say "reorder" and I'll make a snide remark at least before giving up.

Wow, I had it running 15min out of the box. it was a piece of cake. I have it in the same room as my wireless router so i don't know how the range would be in different rooms, but i have no problem with reception from across a very large room. I can see why this guy is pissed though.

well, Amazon shoppers (the general public) should probably not be trusted with networking equipment.

From that amazon page where someone gave it 1 star:
The ethernet port is not auto-sensing so you may need a crossover cable (included) and a standard ethernet cable.
Huh?!?!

Also, you rarely hear people give "good" reviews. Usually its just fustrated owners. does the linksys require a crossover cable?

Hi Rob,

How did you get the wet11 working with tci/ip? I bought one for use with the empeg, and hooked it to a laptop for testing. It connects the laptop to the winders network just fine, and even dchp's an ip address for its self, but blocks all tcp/ip communications thru it, so I can't access the 'net, use ping, and most importantly, use it with the empeg.

I've found lots of references to this problem on the 'net, but no one posts what they did to cure it. Linksys tech support are apparently hired for their lack of knowledge and ADD.

Thanks,

Larry

The trick (at least with the two I have) is to only use DHCP on the wet11 OR the device attached to it. They won't both receive an address properly via DHCP so you have to give one of them a static. Doesn't seem to matter which and no, this doesn't seem to be documented anywhere.

They've shipped Fedex ground, and they say it's due Tuesday. Not bad for free shipping!

People don't read. Big shock.

I wrote:

I was trying to cancel the CD from this order, and cancelled the other
item inadvertantly. Is there any way to undo a cancel?

They replied:

We have submitted your cancellation request to our fulfillment center
for approval. Please remember that this is a request only, and your
order still may ship while this request is being processed.

You'll receive an email confirming or denying the cancellation request
for this order within the next few business days. Thanks for your
patience. We apologize for any inconvenience.

I've tried this, and with the wet11 set to static ip, I can communicate with my old HP plotter with ethernet, also set to static ip. The empeg, however, won't communicate thru it at all, regardless of the dhcp or static ip address. I'm thinking, since the wet11 never shows any lan activity, it may also be the 10 / 100 mbps problem. I think what I'll do at this point is to leave the wet11 on the plotter and go looking for something better for the empeg.

fyi, I had this setup working perfectly using a Netlux (Atmel) access point on the empeg and a Netlux USB wireless adapter, but that stuff was extremely difficult to set up, requiring me to set my computer's ip to something in the range of the access point, then reset the ap's ip, then reset the computer's ip, all to find out that Netlux stuff is strictly compatible with other Netlux stuff only. It seems that the manufacturer implementation of this "standard" has been really horrible. I've had the best luck with Orinoco stuff, but they don't have a cheap bridge like the wet11. Of course, given that this is the third bridge I've bought, I could have gone Orinoco for the same $.

Thanks, tho, at least I have my monster plotter that wanders my house connected wirelessly!

What channel is your wireless network set up on? I tried changing mine, and I don't think the WET11 was able to search for a new channel because it was only connected to my Tivo. I eventually found the channel that the bridge liked and that one worked.

It's channel 5, but I can ping the wet11 no problem, and without changing a thing except where the e-net cable is going, access the hp printer.
