I live in Tucson. What kind of things are you looking for? Clubs, parks? Rock climbing?

I live on the otherside of the valley - Mesa. In all honestly, the only things I know about on the west side are Luke AFB (use to visit a lot while I was going to school and still had a valid ID), PIR, Peoria Sports Complex (Warped Tour), and the new Coyotes arena. Other than that, the west side is a blur on my way to Vegas or LA

How far would you consider driving to reach the clubs?

There are quite a few good clubs in Scottsdale (southeast), and downtown. Really those are the only ones I have gone to.

When I was growing in Tempe, I used to go to Hammerheads near ASU until I was 21, then it just wasn't the same being of legal age. They had a drink called the Hammerhead, 9 liquors+7 juices=one drunk patron... Or "the Tree" out at Williams Field Rd and Rural Rd across from the Intel plant. Keg parties until they developed it... Ahh to be a teenager the Valley in the 80's... Gawd I'm glad I made it out alive!

i never lived in a place where 'clubbing' was a feasible thing. i dont drink alcohol and im not into organized sports. ive no vehicle and currently spend all my time rereading robert jordans wheel of time series.
theres a girl here id particularly like to meet, but no way of getting to where shes at short of public transportation, which ive no clue of the service area on.
i literally just flew in and am friendless and idealess on things to do. i hate moving.

Hmm... how about non-organized sports? Hiking, etc?
ive no vehicle
Oooh... that makes things more difficult. Got a bike? Maybe look into getting a cheap motorbike?

Good series, but that's going to just keep you secluded, which makes moving that much more difficult.

That, my friend, is where Google comes in. Try here or here. Now go meet her.

Sucks, doesn't it? The only way you'll meet people is to figure out what you like to do, and go out and do it. Does the base have any sort of activity center that organizes things? How about just a base-wide email list for that sort of thing? How about a local college that you can take classes at? Church? Volunteer somewhere? I'm sure that people involved in these last two would be more than willing to come out to the base and pick you up...

Best of luck.

Maybe you could try that Friendster thingy that popped up on the radar a few weeks ago. One of my friends signed up and listed me, so I got an e-mail asking me to sign up. It doesn't seem _too_ bad, and it would be a good way to meet people who know people you know if you were to move.

So, how glad are you that you don't own a vehicle in Phoenix right now?

I live in the oven which is the Valley of the Sun. I live about 3 miles north of Sky Harbor Airport. It is crazy with the gas shortage, but I drive a car that gets 34 mpg. I can wait until September to get gas.

I just graduated from ASU, but I was once in the same situation you were in. I had just moved here from Michigan, and didn't know anybody. I didn't have a car then either. Once you get a car, either a cheap one or a nice one, it opens up a lot of possibilities here. Don't you need a car to put an empeg into?

heh
oh yeah
the line for gas on base is over five blocks long
we ran out mid day yesterday and just got a new truckload today around two
people are waiting upwards of an hour for gas, just cause its cheaper on base.

It's really rather ridiculous, people are parking in the middle of the streets everywhere in line for gas, and the only reason there's shortages is because all the Lemmings are running out to buy $5 of gas like chickens with their heads cut off.
