No, I'm looking for something to keep this thing's clock set when the power will invariably go out every week or so. I'm setting them up with an X10 system because they often travel and I want to have the lights go on no matter what. The device keeps all settings except for its clock in non-volatile memory.

But since this is a very small device that will be kept in a semi-prominent location, I want to find a UPS that is as small as possible. Does anyone have any suggestions? This is the smallest thing I can find so far, but I'm still not very good at figuring out how these power ratings relate to one-another.

Here are some of the specs for the X10 device:
"Power required: 12-28V AC/DC
Power Consumption @ 12V DC: 90mA"

Anyway, check out this Belkin UPS at OfficeMax. I don't know if inexpensive is something you want, but $40 seems like a deal to me.

You could probably get by with a sealed lead acid battery and a trickle charger.
How long does the power outage last for?

Rob: Sorry, I guess they've got some app that displays their product. That looks like a pretty good solution, even if it's still slightly bigger than we'd like. Do you know how long that would last for this device?

Trevor: We typically have short power outages, so I suppose we don't need much time, but it's very unpredictable. The about a month ago we had the weirdest one I've seen, where the power went off for 1 second, stayed on for 2 or 3 seconds, and that repeated for about 5 minutes. Tivo did not like it, and I raced to pull the plugs on our computers. So to answer your question, it runs the range. Typically it lasts less than a minute, but other times it'll be an hour or so. We had an ice storm a few years ago that knocked it out for a couple days. It's not nearly bad as I'm sure it is in California, but it's quite frequent.

The smallest 12V lead acid battery I've got is roughly 10cm x 4cm x 5cm. It's rated at 1.3Ah so it should be capable of powering the display for several hours at least if it only needs 90mA. You can get bigger sizes and it'll last longer.
Hooking it up with a trickle charger should keep the battery topped up. You'll need to put a diode in to prevent the battery discharging through the charger.

Hmm, not sure if this is within my realm of capability, at least not with my current knowledge. I may think about reading up on it, though. Thanks for the suggestion.
