The alpha team keep finding bugs! There have been six builds of it so far!

I think it's near now, and at least you'll get something very stable (which is the entire point of this release - no new features, but lots of fixed bugs).

Any possibility we could get a list of all the fixes\enhancements?
I noticed in another post by tfabris that said (referring to logo downloads)
"Interesting side note: If you want to look at your image on the Empeg screen for more than a couple seconds, upgrade your player software. It will show your logo for a good portion of the process, as it's pumping the partition.
(Note: I'm not sure if this currently works for 1.0, but I know it will work in 1.01.)"

Would this be considered just a fix or an enhancement?

and please please tell me that "volume auto leveling" is a "fix" in 1.01. ??

I just stuck the developer version of 1.0 on my Empeg the other night and it does in fact keep the custom logo on screen the entire time it is pumping the partition (whatever the hell that means =).

Only if it is optional! I, for one, do not want my music volume "auto leveled". Dynamic range is a very important component of the music I listen to (classical).

There is always a "release notes" file with each software upgrade that contains the fixes and enhancements made. Such a file won't be available until the actual release is made.

upgrade your player software. It will show your logo for a good portion of the process, as it's pumping the partition.

I'm pretty sure that feature exists in 1.0, and it's neither a fix nor an enhancement, it's just a side-effect of the fact that the partition pump takes a while.

and please please tell me that "volume auto leveling" is a "fix" in 1.01.

Empeg does not have any volume auto leveling code. However, there is a piece of third-party code, written by Richard Lovejoy, which makes a stab at it. There have been several threads on the BBS about this, and the thing you call "volume auto leveling" is a tricky and complicated subject which doesn't have a single simple fix.

If you are interested in trying Richard's code, go into the FAQ section of the BBS and look up the bit on uploading custom kernels to your player.

Someday, Richard's code might be included with the Empeg player, but right now it's not, and it won't be there in 1.01. However there's nothing to stop you from installing Richard's 1.0 kernel onto your 1.0 player right now if you wanted.

Sorry, I just added some stuff (sync a little faster, etc)... but we're almost there. We just have to check that our alpha group are still happy with the latest stuff...

It's only a *little* faster :)

The wishlist includes significant ethernet sync speedups (maybe 1.5x - 2x faster) but there's no ETA on that currently.

Interesting thing I found on MP3.com:

Quote:

- Emplode v1.01, which fixes many synchronisation bugs, is probably released today (we've had good feedback from our alpha group). Version 1.1, which addresses many of the feature deficiencies (now has search, better playlist ordering, playlist time calculation, etc etc) is due to go out to our alpha group within the next week or so. V1.1 also adds WAV support, WMA support (license pending!), new shuffle modes (least often played, least recently played, etc), multiple bookmarks, etc.

- We're looking at some improvements to ethernet sync speed (probably 2x speedup, maybe more) in v1.2. USB won't get a lot faster though, due to the limitations of the slave controller.

Yay! Let's hope it goes out today, and that 1.1 comes soon as well. Those are great features to look forward to.

Does anyone know if 1.01 or 1.1 are planned to actually display the clock somewhere?
During standby?
As a visual?
Track info?

Another off\related question.... What is the life expectancy of the Real time clock battery? or is it a nicad?
How long can the unit go completely without power before real time clock battery stops keeping time?

1.1's visuals include a time/date visual (and very nice it is too).

Not planning to display it during standby, as the display being on also powers the amps. It may get added to track info too.

The battery is a supercap, which keeps the clock running for 7 days+ when not plugged in to anything. If it's in the car (even in total power off mode, ie no standby light) the supercap gets charged.
